This is the killer , though.

(Personally I think it's very fun to drive)

Ok, ok...

I'll up my offer to $10.

Sorry that you got "stuck" with that car... I wish you luck in selling it. Maybe an "Enthusiast's Special" will help move it?

I would personally never buy it. The X5 has to be the worst manual transmission equipped vehicle that I have ever driven. First gear is useless, and you can't cruise below 3500-4000 rpms on the highway. The gearing is totally wrong.

Jon,

I just showed my wife that X5 (5-speed, SP?). She loves it!

Too bad it is about two months too late!

Alpine White / Black Leather.

Sport, Premium, Rear Climate, Xenon.

A small margin over invoice.

Factory-fresh too.

I think I saw 1 MT X5 a few months ago new at Irvine BMW. It was a bronzish color. Definitely NOT an enthusiast's color.

Unless you're really lucky I think you may be SOL.

Jon, you have got to stop spec'ing out cars after a wild night out man.:D

Wow, that is about as RARE as a triangular sports airbag equipped car with VTB's SSG Paddleshift.

Next Jon will be specing out a X5 4.6 in LSB exterior and Kiwi interior.

How is first gear useless?

And what's wrong with a high cruise? :dunno:

Have you driven one?

First gear reminds me of the "first gear" they put in the heavy duty trucks. (Ex. the F-series super duty has a 6 speed on the diesel models, but the first gear is geared to help you pull up an incline in bad weather or when towing a trailer. In normal driving, they recommend you start in "second" gear) Its useless for every day driving; you would be much better off starting out in second gear. Anyone know the max speed in 1st gear on the 5spd X5? All I know is that I stopped using 1st gear altogether on the one I drove because it was a waste of my time... no sooner did I start in first than I would have to shift into second. That extra shift probably slows you down more than if you just started in second.

The E46s have a high cruise, but it is still tolerable. The X5 is noticably higher, and it just makes too much noise. It sounds like the car is running on its last breath trying to maintain highway speed.

Driving a 5spd is supposed to be fun- when it gets tiring and annoying, there's a problem. I would be fine with it as it is (and I would just avoid 1st all together) if they just put in a normal sixth gear.

Some food for thought:

X5 3.0i 5-speed: 5.09 first gear * 4.10 final drive = 20.87:1 overall ration

F350 Superduty Powerstroke Diesel "6-speed": 5.79 "low gear" * 3.73 = 21.59:1 overall ratio

Whats the big deal, you ask?

Well, your 325xit 5-speed has an overall ratio of 13.6:1, and for comparison, a 325i 5-speed has an overall ratio of 13.32:1. That's a BIG difference.

That's a tough sale. I know of one manual 3.0 X5 sold locally, it was a customer ordered unit.

Hmm... Never quite realized how low it was geared. Won't really matter this fall... It ought to get a six speed and the 3.6L V8. That ought to be a pretty decent combo.

Exactly. I tried REALLY hard to like it, but I just couldn't. It was that bad. I am definately looking forward to the new one!! Please don't mess this one up BMW!!
