I got a flat yesterday, don't think the tire is repairable, so I'm shopping for tires. I am still unsure if I want to buy all-season tires or true winter tires.

Here's what I have on my '03 540 now:

265/35ZR18 rear
235/40ZR18 front

The car is a beast; it has the Dinan S3 package, that includes the supercharger and the lowered and firmed up suspension. Also, I am an 'enthusiastic' driver, so between the car's power and my driving habits I need some good tires.

My tire wish list:

I do not like tires that pull into the ruts in the road. My '01 330 went from the stock Conti Contact Sports to the Michelin Pilot Sports and suddenly started doing this, I do not know why.

I do not like tires that have soft sidewalls that seem to slow down the steering responsiveness.

Thirdly, I do not like loud tires, but with my car's M5-style exhaust they'd have to be really loud to get noticed, so this concern is a little lower down on the list.

What do you recommend? Thanks!

Both the Michelin PS2 and Conti Contact 3 would serve you well based on your preferences.

Both of those tires come up as Max Performance Summer tires? The surveys don't even rate them for winter use. I'm looking for winter tires, unless someone can sell me on some all-seasons.

I am looking at the Blizzak LM-25 versus the Eagle Utra Grip GW3. The Eagle tire did not have any survey results to really compare it to the Blizzak well. I have heard good things about Eagle tires, the F1, for example, and the Blizzak comes highly recommended.

What do you suggest?

We don't have much experience with the Goodyear winter tires yet, but we have had very good feedback with the LM25's.

I could not tell the difference (in terms of handling) going from the Michelin Pilot Sports summer tire to Pilot A/S. The Pilot's (A/S and summers) BOTH pull (especially on "unpaved" surfaces or roads being prepped for repaving (grooved), but I always chalked it up to the size of the tire and not anything specific to the brand until I tossed on the cheapest pair of 18"s I could find on my '02 Chrysler 300M Special and the pull was reduced substantially. I would stay away from the Pilots.
