Since I ditched my RFT's in favor of the Michelin PS2's, I am thinking about picking up the BMW Mobility Kit. I called the dealership and it is $145.00. Seems somewhat pricey for just a portable air compressor and sealant. Perhaps because it has a special case that fits into a void in the trunk area of my 6?

I was thinking I could put together my own kit by buying a portable compressor, getting some sealant, as well as picking up a tire plug kit. I have watched guys do tire repairs at shops; is it really that difficult? That's the big question.

The sealant seems like a one shot deal to work, and if it doesn't, you're screwed.

Thoughts?

I am not familiar with the BMW Mobil Kit.

For my Euro Deliv pick up trip, I purchased and brought along with me, the Continental version of the Mobility Kit. I would bet they are the same products with different names. I paid ~ $85-$90 from tirerack.com (including ship+tax).

Anyway, I brought along for my trip as a safeguard/precaution since I knew that my 328iT would have RFTs.

As soon as my car was presented to me at the Freimann delivery center, I immediately opened the rear hatch, and threw the Conti Kit into the compartment under the rear trunk/hatch space...fit really nicely and out of site.

The Delivery specialist Herr Bernhard Baum... was rather impressed with my preparedness.

Luckily, I did not have to use it and brought it back to the US on my flight back.

It's been 1 year and I haven't had to use the kit yet, luckily.

So, it's a good precaution/insurance to have it, but you won't know how well or if it works until you really need it.

Good luck on your decision.

Can this kit be used with the sensors that are on the e90 wheels? I was thinking of ordering one as well.

This product's sealant may interfere with the tire pressure monitoring sensors on vehicles with direct TPMS, possibly leading to error prompts and incorrect pressure readings. Use of this product on direct TPMS vehicles could also result in damage to the tire pressure sensor inside the wheel. Please contact your sales specialist at The Tire Rack for more information.

I guess I could call TR to check. Gary, feel free to chime in...

how about a plug kit? the kind with the little "rope" you thread in? They won't work for a gash or tear, but I wouldn't trust tire goop for those either.

If I want to use non-rft's that is fine. He also told me that getting a can of fix-a-flat would work, even with TPMS. As long as I am not driving too far and get the tire fixed quickly it will not damage TPMS. Just make sure that all components of TPMS are cleaned thoroughly b4 re-installing on new tire. That should solve all of your problems.

Don't waste your money. The BMW mobility kit isn't worth it.

Care to elaborate? Maybe make some points as to why it is deficient, give some alternatives like carry a spare or use kit xyz.......

Did you have some first hand experience with it? Did it let you down. Not sharp shooting you just would like to know.

Thanks!
