I have had Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s on two of my cars. The first car(06 MINI S) I purchased them based on all the reviews. The second (current 98 M3 sedan) came with an almost brand new set. I feel like they never lived up to the hype on either car. They do ride great, but thats because the sidewalls are relatively soft. They always seemed to hydroplane more than the Contisport2s I had on my old M3 even though everyone touts how great they are in the wet.

However most annoyingly NONE OF THEM ARE ROUND (put the car on a lift and spun tires because I couldn't get rid of a shimmy). The wheels were completely refinished and are completely straight. I lived with them for the past 8k miles and decided its time to move on and search for deal while the winter set is on (enjoying the shimmy free driving). So what do I go with now?

I have decided to try 235/40/17 all around in a summer tire, this is for my daily driven e36 M3 sedan. I will be graduating college in the spring time and envision many commuting miles ahead of me. I have never tracked the car but might consider some occasional track/autox this coming summer. I will not spend $800 on PS2s. I was reading reviews on Ecsta SPTs, seemed pretty decent, and found them on sale for $394 shipped to my door for a set of four. That seems like almost too good of a deal to pass up. Frankly, I was quite happy with the Contisport2s I had on my last M3, but I'm wondering if there is a newer/cheaper alternative. Thanks for any advice!

I've heard decent reviews on the SPT's.

I have the F1 GSD3s on my ZHP, and they do seem squirrely in the wet - it's kind of exciting, but I don't know how safe they are. Seems like I get a lot of road feel from the tires, or it could be the 17 lb rims.

I find it very hard to judge tires, personally.
