My car was shipped over on the Liberty and was discharged on 11/27. There were a few other people on my ship, including iversonm. He got a re-delivery date of 12/12 at his local dealer. I chose to do PCD and the earliest date I've been told is 1/14/08. I know there is a few weeks wait between dealer delivery and performance center delivery, but not a month...Can anyone explain how they schedule the dates for PCD??

Wow. I suppose the Christmas holidays interfere, but an extra month is a lot! My Euro delivery was two weeks after yours, so that would mean end of January in SC for me. That's a lot of wait time! I hope they can move you up and take up some slack for me, too. I second your request for more transparency in the PCD scheduling. And I like your color combo!

Easy. First come, first serve. Remember, there are U.S.-only customers who are booking dates throughout the year.

Is it right that they only do up to six a day? Monday thru Friday? Can one be "waitlisted" for an earlier date if someone reschedules? Who does the scheduling? How does one best communicate with them? At what point can one pull the plug on the program or opt for something sooner, quicker?

I understand the first come first serve system, but there is another person in this forum who was on the same ship as me and also did ED and has a PCD date of 12/21...

I think first come first served means when your CA requested the date. Other threads on here have indicated that they have a central email system to que up delivery requests. They may have had one opening on the 21st, and not another one until next year. His request got there first. :dunno:

They had a few more than 6 the day we were there. There were also at least two groups there for internal training. It seemed quite busy to us.

I second your request for more transparency in the PCD scheduling.
How much more transparent can it be? Let me see if I can explain this in another way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Let's say we are a BMW hotel with only six rooms (the "rooms" equate to a vehicle overview).
Your CA is your "Travel Agent" making your travel plans and we are the only hotel you want to stay at.
By staying here, you will also get to participate in a cool driving experience, see the BMW museum and take a factory tour when available.
When all six rooms have been reserved, we are full. So we continue looking out until the first room is available.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ONLY for the ED customers, you can tell your CA (travel agent) to request that you do not need a vehicle overview. By doing this, you do not need a "room" so we can put you on any day that we have space for extra vehicles on the driving course. This can move your date up possibly by a couple of weeks.
Based on the date, you then decide if it is worth the wait to take PCD delivery or not. Remember, nobody is forcing you to take delivery here, it is merely an option that is available. If you deem that having your vehicle earlier is more important, then you simply take delivery at the dealer.
You can also have your CA put you on a waiting list for an earlier date if one becomes available (please note this list can get long and is also on a first come first serve basis).
You can cancel anytime before the vehicle is shipped to us without any consiquences. However if you cancel once your vehicle has been shipped to us, you or the dealer are responsible for the transportation charges to get it back to the selling BMW Retail Center.
We must work directly with the dealer on scheduling dates. It is their vehicle until you sign the paperwork and take physical delivery of the vehicle (with the exception of ED). BMW wants you and the dealer to have a working relationship, since we cannot sell or service a BMW for you.
I understand why the ED customers want their vehicle ASAP since they have already begun paying for it. However, at least you now have the option to wait and take PCD re-delivery or pick up the vehicle at a BMW Center. Keep in mind re-delivery at a dealer who did not sell you the vehicle can possibly cost you $500 or more and you don't get any of our perks!
Combinning ED with PCD was not even possible at the beginning of the year, but I've fought pretty hard to make it a reality so you would have the choice. I don't want to see them decide to revert back to not being able to combine the two.

And trust me, we appreciate the option
There are always a few complainers that try to ruin a good thing for the rest. Reminds me of the ole saying "To wish to have one's cake and eat it too".
If you want to do PCD be prepared for possible delays otherwise take the delivery at a dealer.

This is all extremely helpful, much of it new information to me. Many thanks. I think it is a terrific program and I'm looking forward to the PCD. With the information you've added here, I can ask my CA for the expedited "out-the-door" treatment for delivery, and will do so.

It would be cool if you could do ED, and then take PCD Redelivery, and instead of doing the PCD school, do another 1 day or 2 day school (or dare I say an M school?).

For which we thank you. We had a blast. --
Debbie was not particularly impressed with our delivery at Freimann. PCD more than made up for it.
PCD added a week or two to our re-delivery wait. I think this forum has added to the programs popularity. The wait sure seems to be getting longer. I'm not sure if I'd want to add a month or more with that lease clock ticking away.
As long as future customers can re-direct the car once they find out how long the wait is, I think everyone will stay happy.

+1, I'm glad you had a great time here.
I forgot to mention the month delay is due partially to the fact we will not be doing deliveries from December 24th until January 2nd.
Word of mouth and this forum have drastically increassed our awarness and demand. I actually pitched combining ED + PCD as a way to help fill in the vacancies we had back then in the middle of the week. As everyone is aware, those vacancies no longer exist.
There has not been a bulletin issued to the dealers yet, but it looks as if we will not be doing any deliveries for three weeks in April 2008. We will be hosting a trainning event here during that month for BMW and it will take over the entire facility. So anyone looking to take delivery in April may possibly have a long wait for PCD.

Gibran, I hate to say this b/c I just did a PCD but just wait another couple of weeks and do it. I hate that you have to wait so long for you car, I've seen where some have had to wait and some didn't, but I will tell you this it is worth it. I was there when Andrew*Debbie was there and it was a blast! We of course being the "kids", age 27, of the group had the most fun b/c we understood the concept NYC (Not Your Car)!!! I hope Donnie doesnt get mad reading this but we slammed the gas and peeled out for everything, even driving the 650 over to the museum. Take a video camera with you and get it all on film b/c people won't understand how awesome the driving is so you can just show them! When you do the hot lap, make sure Donnie is the driving and tell him you want to do a 180 in reverse. You have no idea how much fun you are going to have dude and the night before eat the steak at the hotel and go out in G-ville and do it up like a rockstar!!!!

Our ultimate goal is to add more availability  Unfortunately that will not happen anytime soon since we operate on a shoestring budget and the effects the weak dollar has had on BMWNA.
However, if we continue to fill up everyday of the week, it allows for a strong business case to be presented detailing the value we add to the BMW Ownership Experience.
In my mind we are an unbelievable marketing tool that every BMW dealership should be utilizing. Our program is something that they can offer a customer in which no other manufacturer has. Plus, once you experience what a BMW is capable of, you are most likely a loyal BMW customer for life. :D

Well I love the thought of doing PC re-delivery, and I'm hoping to get Tuesday, January 15th. (Waiting for the dealer to get back with me, as Tuesday the 8th was full) It is a while, but I knew that the re-delivery would take 2 months, mainly because of the Christmas holiday. I am looking forward to it though!

Just wanted to chime in... I just dropped off my car this past weekend at Harms in Munich. I will be picking up my car from the PCD sometime in the near future. I imagine that the holidays will add some time to my re-delivery time. So I'm figuring I'll be seeing my car again sometime around Lincoln's birthday. Whats the typical wait time from ED to pick up?

For redelivery at a dealer, it's averaging 5-8 weeks, the lower numbers are on the east coast. From what people have posted, scheduling a performance center delivery can, depending on their availability, add several weeks to that.
I would make a quasi educated guess and say you should figure 8-10 weeks from drop-off. YMMV.
One thing you can do is to find out at what point performance center delivery can be scheduled. I've seen people post two versions: 1.) when the car gets on a ship and 2.) when a car arrives in NY. If it can be booked once it's on a ship, make sure your dealer gets you a slot asap.
Please report back.

Based on my experience (drop-off 11/17, shipped 11/27, discharged in NJ 12/11, PCD scheduled for 1/25) 8-10 weeks seems about right. Well, maybe not "right", but accurate. For west coasters like me, that isn't so much additional time before redelivery (but then there's the long drive home). It was my understanding that the Performance Center would not schedule until the car had cleared customs in NJ, and that is in fact what happened in my case.

That's the one point I was not sure of as I had previously understood it would be scheduled once the car was on a vessel. However, given the vagaries of how long customs clearance will take, this makes sense although it could mean a multi-week delay in redelivery.

Too true. Someone here dropped off in Europe November 4 and got a pre-Christmas PCD (Dec 19, I think); I dropped off on November 17 and got January 25, so a couple of extra weeks at least. I'm not complaining -- as it happens I don't need the car, and that was the basis for deciding on a Performance Center redelivery. But I do miss it!

I dropped off on the 8th in Paris and it was in NY before the end of November, I thought that was really quick, but Customs can make or break you. Most likely, if it weren't for the Christmas and New Years holidays, our PCD dates would be 2-3 weeks earlier. Either way, it's getting closer! :)

We picked up the car at the Welt on Oct 23rd, dropped it off in Venice on the 29th and will take PCD on Jan 2nd.....They had offered us a pre-xmas date, but I was out of town.Sounds like 6-8 weeks is a good estimate for ED-PCD.
