View Full Version : Point of no return on PCD?

My CA put the request in a couple of days ago while my car was still in production. Now it is in transit to the port of exit. Earlier I saw a post from someone whose car has already been off-loaded in the US and was told the earliest PCD date was 1/14! That doesn't make it look pretty for me.
So here is my question: at what point is it impossible to change one's mind about PCD. Do all of the cars ship to NJ if they are East Coast bound? My dealer is in NJ. I still like the idea of PCD...but not if it means adding 2 months to the wait.

I read an internal faq on the PCD a while ago. I think it said once the car was on a ship it was too late to cancel. You car would be headed to SC, not NJ, so it would be too late at that point to redirect.

If you picked up your car in Munich, it will go to New Jersey. If that is the case, you can redirect even after the car unloads in NJ. The delay is more of a issue for ED customers since the lease starts before you leave for Munich.
Cars ordered for US Delivery stay on the ship and go to Charleston.
Cars take significant time to make it through customs and the VDC. For our X3, the longest chunk of time was between offloading from the ship and loading on a truck to the Performance Center. I think our car only sat at the Performance Center for a few days.

Thankfully, it all worked out. I got a date of 1/15 and just booked our travel arrangements. I'm thinking I can read the manual at least 3 more times between now and then!

You will have a great time. Try not to think about it and the time will pass faster.

On a related note, isn't it true that here in good old USA, one can walk out of the deal during a delivery and dealer has to return any deposits?
So, how does that apply to PCD and ED? Especially ED, since they may not be bound by US rules... :dunno:

Thanks for the note Donnie, we're really looking forward to it. I hope we'll have the chance to do a hot lap with you. That seems to be everyone's favorite part!
Cheers,
Chris

Boile - ED buyers sign all the contracts and pay for the car, which is the legal part of "take delivery", one or two weeks before going to Europe to actually get the car. Not sure about PCD.

It's the same with PCD. The paperwork is all signed off at the dealer about 2 weeks before the delivery happens.
31 Days until PCD!

I signed the day before I got on a plane...
