Hi,

hope you guys can help me!

what car documents do you receive at pick up?? Do you know whether you could eventually sell the car in Europe after the trip?

Bests,
Tony

Unlike Mercedes ED you do not get the Certificate of Origin in Europe. Without that it would be next to impossible to sell the car in Europe. Of course even with it there are huge tax payments that would be added which would erase the savings of going ED. I guess if you were selling it to a serviceman for eventual export to the U.S. it might be a different story, but strict time limits would need to be complied with to avoid having to pay the added taxes in Europe.

I don't think you can sell a US Spec model in the EU....

was thinking to sell it to Switzerland, where you don't need a certificate of origin...

do you guys know what documents come with the car?

I believe you contractually agree not to do that. It is a US-spec car. Amongst other things, you would face paying VAT.

Many US spec cars, both new and used, are sold in Europe! They cannot however be registered in the buyer's name without the applicable taxes having being paid, either in Germany or another EU country. With a BMW European Delivery, you are receiving the car tax-free so, although nobody can legally stop you selling it, it would still be registered in your name till the taxes are paid or it's officially exported from the EU. BMW would probably hand over the Certificate of Origin if you paid the taxes to them but you could only do this after taking delivery of the car otherwise they may not hand it over to you and would cancel your ED. I can't see them taking back a used car.

BTW, if it were easy to do and actually resulted in a cost savings to European purchasers, don't you think people would already be doing it?

Folks in the service have a MUCH better deal thru BMW Military Sales. Their Discount also includes ALL BMW models, including the ///M Cars.

Not exactly - when you factor in the $2,150 delivery charge and the MSRP options, it's only slightly cheaper than ED.

(the only way to avoid the $2,150 charge is if you're stationed in Germany and get the U.S. government to pick up the shipping tab)

Don't most servicepeople get that to happen though? I thought the gov't paid to move everything . . .

Once again, another one trying to scam the ED system and ruin it for the rest of us.:spank::behead::slap:

I'd say let's tar, feather and ban the newbie OP with 2-posts. :D

although nobody can legally stop you selling itThe buyer signs a legally binding agreement with BMW which calls for the car to be exported to the U.S. That might be "legally stopping you".

By illegal, I was meaning more that it would not be a criminal offence in Germany to re-sell the car (unless it is falsely registered without taxes having been paid or something like that). It would be a civil matter between BMW and the buyer of the vehicle regarding the contract each entered into.

Government will pay to ship your new Military Sales Bimmer back if you're stationed in Europe... not Korea, Iraq, etc.
