Manual Transmission for e28 524td

Im looking to swap in a manual transmission into an 85 524td..need to know what tranny i could use? thinking of a 535 transmission and peddle cluster. any ideas would be great

I am pretty sure the 535 tranny will not bolt up to a M20/M21 engine. Different bolt pattern.

I know one fella used a 5 speed from a 325e. It has the holes for the sensor pickups that the swap will need.

I think you are right, the 524td is an M20 engine while the 533 and 535 are the M30 engine. You should look into a "donor" 528e car.

Here is a link to someone that already when through this and was decent enough to document it! Even though is a 528e, it is the same engine block so it should also aplly to your cars.
