1983 528 electrical problems

I have a 1983 528 that I just purchased. The brake lights work periodically and the tail lights don't work at all. Also when I turn on the headlights the dash lights go off. Anyone have any info on where to start? Thanks

Did you check the bulb sockets and the brake switch? The sockets can build up crud and wear out. The switches simply go bad over time.
