I've got a 1986 535i that I bought a year ago for about $1,800. A neighbor of mine has been working on it, getting it running well and he was telling me that if I spent the money to get the car restored, it would be worth a lot of money. He said that it would need to be certified as restored, and it comes with a certificate to prove its authenticity.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm wondering if I put the money in to it, to have it restored, if I will get the money back when I go to sell.

Thanks for any info!

There is no financial benefit to restoring an E28 unless it is an M5 and even then good luck. At this point it as all about the love.

A model that has a great following and good resale of restorations is the 2002.

thanks for the info. that is what I keep coming back to.

I do like the 535i, but at least need to be reasonable about what money I can get back out of it, if I do a bunch of work on it.
