Ladies and gentlemen, i have an issue with the recommended oil for my E34 (530-v8) It gets even worse with the syntecs. I just change back to regular oil on last oil change (now that dry knocking sound before warm up is gone). Thing is the hand book recommend 15-40 for where im at (NY) I never see that grade around and only the handbook talks about it, my mechanic who has been on a zillion bimmer course told me to stick with the penzoil or shell 10-40 all year round, im happy with it but : "whats up the 15-40? is anyone here using it?

I use 15W40. Look for shell rotella.
10W40 should be fine.

The 10W40 will keep you within BMWs recomendations down to a lower temp than the 15W40. Your high range will be the same.

I have 15w40 BMW oil in stock. If you are looking for this please contact me back for price and shipping.. and to switch from mineral oil to synthetic and then back to mineral is a very dangerous thing to do and is not recommended at all...

Problems with switching from dino to synth and back are myths. The only time you will have problems is if you allready had a questionable seal that was mostly being held together by dirt.

Thanks again B D I . I know EXSTORTED 2006 is looking out but it made me a little nervy. The people at Penzoil told me that i can switch back to regular oil and i did, even though my local BMW dealer said i should'nt, I couldnt take that (marbles in can)sound in the morning before warm-up or for the first 5 minutes when parked all day. Now the sound is gone, i'm happy.
