So for those who have followed my "adventure" that lasted one week, all's well that ends well.
One of Tire Racks suppliers changed a wheel design aparently without informing them and the wheel they sent me no longer clears the calipers on my 550i sport. So TireRack made it right by fed Exng a new, more expensive tire and wheel set to my BMW dealer and I had them installed today. So in the end I am pleased with their customer service and we have moved on from this hiccup.
I got the Dunlop 3D tire that is rated the highest by survey on their site and am looking forward to good dry and wet performance. On the way home from the dealer and after a short spin, they seem fine. I don't notice any noise difference and perhaps they ride a bit softer due to the summer tires being rather hard in the cold weather.
I wanted to end this with a postive thread and post for Tire Rack because they handled this very professionally. I will use them again and reccomend them to all.
Also, I want to mention to anyone in the NY area that Habberstad has a great service department. They kept the incorrect wheels at their dealership and when Tire Rack sent them the paper work to send back, they handled it for me. They also allowed me to send the new Tires directly to them. This saved me from having to load and re-load the wheels and tires several times. Then they put the new ones on. The total for all of this was the 1/2 hour labor charge of 55 bucks. That's why I will continue to buy my cars from them.
