I just opened the dealership here on Christmas Eve, and the first thing that I noticed is that 50 or so cars got hit overnight with paint balls...

1) will this stuff wash off?

2) what is wrong with society??

It will wash off. But ,having played paintball many times, I can tell you that if they shot at a close enough range it may have left small dents.

Can't answer the question about society...kids just seem more destructive now, I can't imagine ever doing that when I was young. Yes we all did some bad things but I never remember being destructive in any way.

I think the paint is water soluble...at least I hope it is.

Sorry to hear about if jon and good luck with the clean up... :(

That's true...I still carry a circular scar on the back of my hand from getting shot at close range the only time I ever played paintball...and that was through thick camo gloves. I am sure that it is strong enough to dent body sheetmetal at close range...

I just don't get it...

Although with all the high priced merchandise (I'm guessing Cutter must have $3-5M+ in inventory out on its lots, although I've never been there), I'm a little surprised you don't have external surveillance cameras to catch the little rat bastids.

:-(

I am in the electronic security industry (alarms, cameras, card entry) and we have don't many dealers in So Cal. You'de be surprised at how many don't put cameras on their lots.

Jon, I don't really cover Santa Barbara, but if you want some help or someone to act in a consultive role I will make myself available.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

What a disaster! I sincerely hope that you are able to salvage your stock. No one needs the additional frustration and work load associated with fixing the problem.
Sincerely, jpherit

Being a paintball player myself I can lend some advice:

1) It will wash off(and hopefully they didn't use rare oil-based paints).

2) There might be dents on the surface of the car depending on the range and speed they were shot at.

3) This might sound matlock, but, you might be able to track down where the paint was bought(if local.) Certain brands of paintballs have different shells, different paint fills, different colors. You might want to save a badly hit car, and have someone from a paintball store look at it and see if they can determin the type of paintballs they were, and what local stores sell them. Usually punks who do stuff like this are punks and act like it.

4) And when washing, remember that there are bits and pieces of the shell of the paintball on the finish as well which could scratch the surface.

Sorry to hear about that :(

Definitely file a police report (you probably already have) so that they can increase patrols in your area and let you know if it's happened elsewhere.

I would tell the police not to tell "the media" ;) otherwise there could be copycat crimes or another occurence. Don't let them feel any glory.

Did the dealer across the street get hit too? Or just your nice cars?

Sick people who never had to work for anything in their lives.

Sorry Jon... do what you can, don't take it personally, then forget about it and enjoy your holiday.

Oh man, the criminals that would do something like this (it's absolutely criminal vandalism, not a prank) should lose their balls, and I'm not talking about paint. http://www.theunholytrinity.org/cracks_smileys/ups/razor_wind/madani.gif

Oh, man, that is so lame I don't even know how to express it. How frustrating. I really hope you catch the little f***ers.

Ripsnort, I hope you meant to imply that the perps will get what's coming to them, and not that Jon & co. deserved that vandalism.

Ugh. Sorry to hear about this.

Savages. Was it just the BMWs, or across all of Cutter's dealerships?

(Incidentally, I can think of few more magical things than picking up a new bimmer for Christmas. Heh.)

I used to play paintball a lot when I was a teenager and used to have bruises all the time. If they shot close enough, you may find dents... That sux... Does surveilance video tapes show anything?

Well, my meaning was deeper, as parents, the way we raise children and the enviroment they are raised in, shows up later in life...absolutely nothing in there to discern Jon and Co.

Couldn't agree more. I just hope that the delinquents who thought this was a fun idea are identified, and they (and/or their parents) are indeed forced to reap what they have sown... financially, at least.

Unbelieveable.
