When i turn my wheel either left or right very quickly (1+ turn) I can hear a faint squeak as it turns past one part...seems that it only just started occurring again as the weather got cold..is this a case of bad steering rack bushings or something more/less serious?

Common thing, although you'll swear it’s the wheel or column it will be the bush between the cockpit and engine bay.

Just give it a good spray with some spray oil or WD40 and it will go. I used WD40 a year ago and it's never come back.

Thanks for that last link, pure gold.

Once again, yall are there to rescue me. Seems like nothing serious but it seriously annoys me during sharp turns at low speeds i.e. parking manuevers...thanks again! !

haha tell me about the cold, today was HORRID. i drove from my college to home (6 miles) before the car even reached halfway to operating temp on the gauge. that damn shifter was stuck under 5th gear the entire time

where at? you don't by chance live around central suffolk (smithtown//Stony Brook/Ronkonkoma area)? Cuz I've seen a LOT of nice E36s around town, namely an Avus blue 328iS sport, and an avus blue M3, a silver M3 and one really nicely modded 328iS (dropped, exhaust, wheels, tints)
