I successfully changed the climate control (analog) thats in my dash. In the process, I had to take the in dash computer out (7 button). When I put it back in, it worked but the dim/brightness is extremely low so that i can barely see what is displayed on screen (both screens for the time and temperature)... Is there a brightness control that I may have hit by mistake when taking it out? What could be causing this?

Maybe the red/brown internal lighting wire is not connected. The internal lighting wires all come from the same source, so when you roll the switch it changes the voltage across all of the wires supplying all of the lit dash elements. If just your 7 button MID is dimmer and nothing else is, that suggests something to do with wiring to the MID - the internal lighting wire must be the problem. Check your wiring I guess.

Thanks... It's getting too dark to take care of it tonight. I'll check it in the morning and see if it something isnt connected properly.

So I unplugged it, plugged it back in, checked the wires, everythign is ok. The buttons illuminate as they should with a bright red light. It is the LCD screen that is very very dim almost unreadable (for the temp and time... two screens). Does anybody know what this is and how I can fix it? If I have to get a new one, is the 9 button or 18 button plug and play?

Thanks.

If the buttons illuminate properly, then it's probably just the LCD starting to pack up; something that they are notorious for! Dead pixels and dim displays cost money for someone to fix by replacing the LCD display, it's easier to get a new unit.

As for the 11 button or 18 button MID, you need the additional X1071 white connector. You only have the black X1070 connector, so you would need to find one of those and connect up the pins and wires to the instrument panel and dash, which won't be wired for connections. It's a job, but if you know what you are doing it is possible and there are good guides on the internet for doing so. By far the easiest thing is to just replace the MID with the same 7 button one.

Interestingly, all the 7 button MID needs to function is the 3 wires from the analog clock, but if you want the gong and temperature functions you need those wires connected. I took out my analoge clock and replaced it with the 7 button MID that's why I mention that.

So I was having problems with my OBD (7 button - ghetto OBD) such that the display on the LCD screens were too dark to see. In other words, it was too dim. However, the lights on the buttons were bright enough. I figured it was a bad LCD screen and the OBD needed to be replaced... So what the hell, might as well take it apart and see whats on there... Well guess what? The LCD display actually does have two bulbs, one behind each screen. I will order new ones which will hopefully fix the problem... I am still tempted to wire an 18 button or at least a nine button... but we shall see. In the meanwhile, I am glad I figured out how to fix this one....

Oh yeah I forgot it used bulbs, stupid of me really because I took them out to look at them in my own unit when I got it. Haha, good that you figured it out though.
