View Full Version : Service Maintanence Schedule

My 2007 X3 is at about 15,000 miles now, and I haven't had a service done on the car (oil change, etc) yet. I would have thought an engine CEL light would have gone off to prompt me to go in for service, but nothing yet.

What is the normal scheduled interval for the BMW free service? Will they replace windshield wipers for free by the way?

The car won't throw a CEL unless something is wrong.

BMWs don't have a fixed interval for most maintenance items. It is dynamic, based how the car is used. On a X3, the number of miles until the next service are displayed in the odometer right after you start the car. It will also show up if you turn the key to position 1 without starting the car. If it is a negative number, you are overdue.

Our X3 is due for an Oil Service in 13,725 miles.

If it has been more than a year since the car's in-service date, it should go in for a low mileage oil change even if the service indicator says the car isn't due yet. From your sig that would be 5/16/2008. In your case, I'd expect the Oil Service to count down to zero before then.

There are a few items that are on a fixed interval. The first one is a brake fluid flush at 2 years.

Wiper inserts are included.

I hope you are enjoying your X3!
If your car is anything like mine, every time you turn it on (and the parking brake is engaged, in my case), the information square should display when the next service is. My started telling me how many miles before the service was needed, and it turned out to be at 17,000 miles.

Now that I have had it changed (a few weeks ago) it is telling me that I am good for another 14,000 miles.

See you around maybe.

As stated above, BMW will only change the oil when the service indicator says it is needed. Most are around 15-18K miles. But, they will change it every 12 months if you do not reach the indicated mileage by that time.

Does anyone read the manual anymore?

It also depends on how your drving habits are. If you tend to be aggressive with your car your oil change might be sooner or right on the dot at 15K miles.. If you take it easy and drive less than aggressive you might have to change your oil at 17K+ miles.

Dealers typically will change your oil change miles indicatorater shows within 1,500 miles.

Will they replace windshield wipers for free by the way?

I have been told they will.

My first service came around 17K. I was told by my advisor it all depends on driving habits. My miles were mostly freeway driving. If you have reached 1 year and 1 day after the initial pickup date, you should be able to get it changed.

I have been told they will.

I can confirm that they will upon request.

The Original Post is two months old. I'm sure Angina has checked his service indicator by now...
