1985 bmw tdi,

hi folks can any one help me i have a 85 tdi
after 3/4 hrs in the cold [nova scotia]
it will not stat unless i plug it in for 2 hrs,

i also have an 81 benz 300sd it starts with now problem at -10 -15

I guess that by "unless I plug it in for two hours" you mean plugging in an external block heater? I'm no diesel expert but it sounds like you have bad glow plugs (engine heaters) or the controller. These heat the engine just before starting.
