Just wondering if swap-ing the manifold, throttle, and head from a 325I to a 325e is a worth while undertaking. The 325i is supposed to have a larger intake manifold and larger throttle, so i would think that buy coupling those with a more performance oriented camshaft i might see a bit more "love" from my engine.

Will it see improved power, and longevity, or will it catch fire and explode?

Give me a little incite please, i read about it on a web site recently while i was looking for info on head rebuilds, now that i heard about it i figure if its worth doing, i might as well swap the heads while working on it.

Let me know whats up, or :thumbdwn:

(read about it in the last 2 paragraphs, all the way at the bottom)

Not worth the time or trouble.

Short answer- it fits fine, but you'll end up with slightly lower compression, fine for a TURBO, but not great for NA power. If you want a cheap 2.7l 'i' motor, start with a 1988 325/e and run the "i" intake, injectors, ECU, etc and you'll be in business. You cannot make a cheap 2.7l stroker with a standard 325e ('84-'87) without custom pistons- so that takes it out of the cheap category. One of the keys to using the '88 only 325/e is that it has pistons that will give you 2.7l and work with the "i" head. BTW, the '88 only 325/e uses an "i" head casting with "e" valve springs + cam.

So by what your saying is that if I had an 87 325is and wanted to swap the head on to an 86 325es that would be a waste of time or not even possible?

If it is possible how do i go about it? :) I am always interested in finding new ways to work on my car, Thanks:thumbup:

It's possible, but you'll be unhappy with the outcome, and your HP will drop slightly. Now if you do it, then turbo the engine, that's different.
