Having read about how swamped they are at the VPC is there a priority for cars going through?
ED cars, cars already sold to customers and then dealer stock would make sense. Do they do such a thing?

Nope. Quite the opposite. Seems like ED cars are handled last. Mine sat there for a month.

Priority treatment?!!
Yes!! BMW would put an ED car which is fully paid for 2 months ago ahead of the cars that's "taken" but not delivered (or paid for) because .... well.... you paid for your car.. and you must be really anxiosly await for your car. :p
Guess again!!:eeps: :tsk:
sorry for the bad news,

Skybum, A month?!? That blows. I leave for Munich in a couple days. I was hoping that the time it took to get to the dealer in NJ would be a month. Maybe I'll get lucky.
And when you put it that way, why would they? They've already been paid for the ED car. And the faster they get the other cars through the faster they can be for those.
Thanks anyway for the info.

Actually, you should know that ED cars has a higher priority than the BMW employee's car.:p  That should make you feel a lil' better

does anyone know what the current delay is for southern US delivery? I'm doing ED next month and wonder what kind of delay I'm looking at....

I can confirm the low priority VPC puts on ED cars. My car sat over a month in the NJ VPC, even after my dealer kept inquiring about why the car's delivery was being delayed. VPC kept coming back saying that the car was on a priority list, but the weeks rolled by....

In the "ask a dealer" forum someone posted that their car arrived at VPC NJ on Friday and it got to the dealer in CT today. I don't think it was ED though.

Yeap!! You are absolutely right!!:D
Just for comparison. My 5er "non Euro Deliver" arrived to my dealer in Ohio on the third day from the ship docked in NY Harbor.
On the other hand, the avg. wait for ED cars we've had is about (from ship docks to dealer receiving) 3 1/2 weeks. With longest wait for 8 weeks and shortest 2 weeks.
My suggestion, buy a book and keep yourself busy. Constant looking/ waiting / moaning will only make you suffer:p ;)

P.S. Given you are getting the car from Cutters, I know that Jonny Boy is in good term w/ the folks at VPC (due to close proximity w/ Oxnard VPC). He might be able to hook you up w/ special perks (i.e. Watch your car unload, etc.) :)

Do those of us on the right coast have any advantage here? It is, after all, closer to the Father Land. Is there one VPC, or one for the east, and one for the west? Are they all (if more than one) backed up?

i was reading through my bookmark of people's ed sites, and this person's boat arrived on the 12/28 and he got the car on the 5th of the following month.
so there is something to cheer you guys (including me!) up.
*this quick turn around may or may not be typical, but at least it can and does happen*

Considering I going to drop the car off on Friday May 23rd, I hope by the time it gets to the east coast VPC that they will have redcued their backlog. I REALLY want to have my car before 4th of July.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but Joseph of the European Delivery department told me today that ED cars are supposed to receive the highest priority at VPC's. He said that he has heard form customers that this sometimes may not be the case in practice.
He is going to try to speed my car through the VPC since it is being shipped to California instead of New Jersey (by mistake).
I'll keep everyone posted.

he's just saying that to make you feel better, i mean he IS from the ED dept, and wants you to take more EDs. this low priority given to cars that are already being paid for, while making sense from a strictly $$$ perspective on bmw's side (get the unsold cars out first to sell them quicker), annoys me to no small degree and will be heavily considered whether or not i choose to do ED again.
a couple of months ago, people who were on the same boat with me all got their cars like in like 2 days after the boat docked, even a guy in a different state, where as mine took around 2-3 weeks longer.
i feel definitely fortunate though as the delay wasn't as great as what other people have been experiencing with their ED cars.

did you mean joseph at your dealer's ED dept or someone at BMW ED HQ?
either way, it's in his interest to say ED cars get priority.

Joseph at ED in NJ.
I've got to assume that they will try to do something for me at the VPC. After all, my car could have potentially been delivered to me in Louisiana on the same day that it is now to arrive at the port in California, and it still has to clear customs and VPC before being trucked over mountain ranges and half-way across the country (let's hope the truck doesn't get lost between Los Angeles and here--a straight shot down I-10).

Joseph is the man!
He helped me out about a month ago dealing with a damaged windshield. So he'll certainly do what he can.

Jrubens,
Do you have a number for BMW ED? I want to contact them to verify the dent that was on my car upon pickup will be fixed. Judith at the delivery center told me she would email BMWNA about the damage.
I guess I could just call the 800# but if you have something different can you send me a PM?
Thanks!

Hi Sam. I'm on the Maersk Wind. Should arrive in CA on the 27th.
You took some great pics. I was checking them out a few weeks ago. I looked for you at HBH the day we were supposed to get together in Munich. It was a wonderful experience and I'm glad you guys had a wonderful time. Looks like we had the same CA, Judith!
Regardless of our unsuccessful attempts to meet, it was fun corresponding with you. Maybe we'll try this again in 4 years. :D Until then I'll just keep seeing you around on Bimmerfest.

My ED letter, the one where BMW confirmed in writing that the car is on the wrong boat, headed to the wrong VPC, states:
"Upon arrival, the vehicle must first clear U.S. Customs and Department of Agriculture inspections before it is released to the Vehicle Distribution Center. Please note that these inspections have recently become more thorough resulting in longer processing times. The VDC treats every Eurpoean Delivery car as a priority, but the processing time will be longer if any repairs are needed."
