View Full Version : Change out black bumpers for color matched?

I am thinking about picking up a x3, probably a 04 or 05 but I really dislike the black bumpers. Is there a way to switch out the black bumpers to the match the color on the body of the car like those on the 2006+ ?

Yes, but it'll cost you. Personally, I think the black bumpers are great.

I agree. I prefer the black bumpers also.

You'd have to reroute the foglamps, that's for sure. However, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to, albeit at a cost. Just get the Aero kit if you care that much.

Honestly, I think the black bumpers are fine and prevents it from looking like a minivan or bloated crossover.

My wife backed her 05 X3 into my dads Explorer and the damage would have been significantly worse if she did not have the black bumpers. While I like the looks of the matched bumper the black does provide a great deal of protection...

There was some past threads about painting them, the results sounded good. Probably cheaper that replacing em.....

Ahh, a non transmission related thread!

Dido what FireFly said. Black bumpers do not show scuffs or scratches. Much more durable and practical. When I first saw the painted bumpers on the newer X3's ('06?) I was envious. But I decided now I like the look and it has aged well on our '05.

We prefer black bumpers here. :neener: It's a SUV not a fancy mobile.

IMO the black bumpers look cheap...and ugly. The black sections also very difficult to keep clean. I despise having to wash my wife's 07 X3 because of the small black trim pieces around the bumper areas.

If it's not an old school 911 or a MKII GTI, save the black bumpers for the entry level Kia's.

+1 I was building an X3 on the BMW site a few days ago. I found it strange a white X3 looks better without the sport pack. The trucklett needs some black to break up the paint. I guess that is why they have black with the X5.

Too bad you can't get the sport pack with black trim.

:dunno: That's just the point... you really never have to wash the black pieces, at least not as much as you would if they were painted... :dunno:
