I am considering purchasing a certified preowned 2006 X5 3.0i. I have never owned a BMW before, and would like to know what types of problems people have with the 2006 X5. Also, what are some downsides to owning this vehicle? Thank you for your candid input.

i am not aware of any major problems besides replacing worn parts on a used X. Depends on mileage. But make sure you get CPO/or run diagnostics with a certfied mechanic to check on any possible issues. If dealer refuses to have it checked, leave and find another one who does. Also, you might want to get 4.6 or 4.8 or 4.4 at least instead of the 3.0, you will feel huge difference. Feel like driving a beast!

Downside? It's addicting, makes you look back after you parked :)

I have a 03' 3.0i 59k mi and have no issues. Power is ok.... no comparison to a V8. Still, it gets on it and can handle anything I give it. Mileage is good 16-19 in the city and 22-25 on the highway.
Make sure the tranny is services every 30k, get an extended warranty for this to cover any issues that may arise on it.

Window regulators tend to go in time.
CV boots can tear and get dirt in the joints, big problem (keep two eyes on those!!)
X5's eat up brakes and rotors....

Welcome and let us know what you get!

X5's eat up brakes and rotors....

I just turned in my 2005 E53 with 46,000 miles and never had to replace any brake pads or rotors!
