Hello,
I am negotiating an ‘over invoice’ deal on a 328i Coupe, and I have a question regarding delivery costs with the PDC option.
Typically, the local dealer would have to cover the cost of delivery items like: detailing, fuel & time spent. With the PDC option these costs would shift to the PDC, but is the local dealership charged for these items, or does BMWNA pick up the bill?
Does the $775 destination fee go to the local dealer, or does it go to the PDC?
Thanks!

PCD does not cost the dealer any extra. We, "BMWNA", cover the hotel stay the night prior to your delivery, all your meals, take care of the detailing, fuel, and give you an overview of your vehicle. All the customer is responsible for is transportation to the Greenville/Spartanburg Airport (GSP).
The destination charge still applies to your vehicle and is charged to the dealer. We are not the factory and still have to have the vehicles trucked to our facility, not counting the boat and train ride from Europe if applicable. That charge is subsidized across every vehicle so that no one dealer has a geographical market advantage for being located near the port of entry or factory.
The dealer will most likely still be responsible and charge for registering the vehicle and getting your plates.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Jonathan,
That is very helpful, and also what I was assuming. Hopefully, after ED, I will be down to you center in August!

Regarding the destination charges, if one were to pick up an X5 at the PC, would there still be destination charges since this car is built there?

Yep, still applies. The BMW factory still has to truck the vehicles to us even though we are a mile away. Same thing applies to the local BMW dealer who is only a couple miles away from the factory.
btw... How was the drive home?

I have a question about dealer costs. In negotiating with my local dealer, he told me that in figuring their profit, they have about $500 in charges for the work done to the car after it is delivered to the dealership before I pick it up--A quote: "When the car is picked up, these fees are billed to the car no matter where is it picked up. The mats, gas, detail, state inspection, and PDI are still being done to the car." But in this forum it was said that PDC doesn't cost the dealer any extra. I've always thought the $500 is bogus. They aren't adding it onto the sticker, but they're adding that on to the invoice price IN ADDITION to the $775 and stating that represents their cost.
What's the reality? Could I please get an authoritative answer? thanks!

Reality is the "bottom-line". If another dealer will sell you the car out the door at lower price, buy it there. To me it doesn't matter if the dealer wants to charge for dealer-prep or what ever else they want to tack on. All that matters is the bottom-line.
Good Luck,

I can't see any dealership tracking actual costs to clean & prep each car. But, if you get mats at PC, the dealer paid for them. Where will the state inspection be done, if not at the dealer? Not at PC, unless SC has them. Bottom line - if the dealer wants $500 as a cost added to invoice, and then wants markup on top, shop elsewhere. That is part of his markup.

Actually, they BETTER track this as this is a major cost to them and I would bet most dealers do know exactly how much it costs them to deliver a car (including PDI, gas, etc.). Most cars come with mats except for entry level vehicles and on those vehicles mats are an option so it´s not really a delivery cost per se.

It probably costs them close to $500 incl. the base commission to the CA. If the car is delivered in Spartanburg, the dealer will make more money if they are calculating these costs. Re PDC, PDC is an option that you order from the factory and yes it costs extra.

Costs per month for gas, prep, cleanup, etc, I definitely agree. On a 3 series, the mats are optional, so they are a cost - as the OP is looking at a 328, it is something the dealer provides. And, many 3 series deals include one set of mats.

I'm not the OP, but my question about dealer costs is for a Z4 i or si (still haven't decided which). Bottom line price is what I care about, but it's useful for negotiating to be able to refute the dealer's statement of "it costs us $500+ per car to get it ready to deliver: mats, detailing, gas, etc"--I believe mats are included with the Z4? and I always thought the $775 dealer prep fee covered DEALER PREP that dealer #1 claims it costs them ON TOP OF THE $775! Now if their "out the door" price is the lowest I don't care what they add on before the bottom line is calculated. I guess I just have a problem with statements that don't seem consistent with plausible assumptions, as above!
PCD an extra-cost option? Please explain? Dealer says it costs no more to me, do you mean they pay a fee that is roughly equivalent to what they claim is their cost to detail, etc?

Mats do not come from the factory in the following series vehicles:
Z4, 1, 3, X3, & X5 (most likely X6 :dunno:)
So if you do PCD, the dealer will have to order and pay for mats to be installed in the vehicle prior to you taking delivery if you want them. You will be suprised how many people show up here to take delivery of their new BMW and have no clue it doesn't come from the factory with mats.
PCD is the Performance Center Delivery (no additional cost to the customer or dealer)
PDC is Park Distance Control. It is an option that can be added to some vehicles at the factory.
Other than mats or any other dealer installed accessory that is to be added to the vehicle, we do not charge the dealer for detailing or the gas.
As for inspections, I don't know what that would cost. We don't have inspections of any kind in SC.
Hope this helps to clarify

My dealer put BMW mats in my 335i E93 after I returned from the PDC. Free. Did not even have to ask - dealer's initiative.
Tell your dealer you want the same.

Back in 2001 I purchased my mats from a dealer who discounts parts and brought them with me to the PDC. The nice folks at the PDC installed them for no extra charge.
Also, I negotiated the dealer "fees" down to zero since they didn't prep the car, or pay for mats, or give me a tank of gas, etc. The first time they saw the car was when I drove it there from the PDC to pay for it . (Can you believe it, they let me pick up the car at the PDC w/o paying. I guess they trusted me....).
