I just got a 2005 545i Sport and need recommendations on some good dealers and private shops for maintenance. I have 10K miles left on the warrenty. I heard bad things about most of dealers near me. I live in Fairfax County, VA. I heard good things about Marlow Heights, but bad things about BMW of Fairfax and Sterling.
Any recommendations? ....
Thanks in advance!

I think there is a link on the local bmwcca website with a couple recommendations. Im fairly new, so the only advice i can give you is yes, stay away from the dealers.

Since your car is still under warranty, you have no choice but go to a dealer unless you want to pay for regular maintenance/warranty work out of your pocket.

+1 for what they said, but if you want a reasonable and honest independent shop, close by to you, I'd reccomend RRT. Their labor rates are lower, and they will do good work for you.
I have had their mechanics work on both of my M3's several times for routine maintenance, and would not hesitate to do so again.
I go to BMW of Fairfax for just about everything. Their shop is new, very clean, and exceptionally organized. Two things id wish for improvement are more BMW loaners and less Dent Wizard reps trying to fix all the "character" i have worked so hard to put into my car.
I stay far from Sterling as their aura of pretentiousness is evident from about 2 miles prior to arriving at the dealership.

RRT looks nice and has a lot of great reviews. I also like FunktionAuto a lot. Too bad they can't do my warranty services.

I know this is kinda late, but for anyone else who might be searching, I had really good experiences with Foreign Service Auto in Tyson's (http://www.foreignserviceauto.com/about.htm) and Tate BMW in Annapolis.
