Hi all,

first post here. We just bought an 04 X3 yesterday and will be picking it up tomorrow. We're very excited. Have a couple of questions though-

We want to make some upgrades to the interior. It's a little goofy looking inside. The interior is tan, the dash is half tan, half black, inexplicably the center console top is dark grey and the flooring is gray.

We at least want to chage the top of the center console to tan, and might want to change out the shifter knob to wood or something a bit nicer. We also need to ass an ipod adapter, and maybe upgrade the trip computer so it shows how many gallons of gas / miles per gallon, etc.

Does anyone know what it usually costs to do something like this?

Congrats on the new car and welcome.

Wood shift knob from the dealer is about $125.00

You can look up the interior parts at realoem.com and then get the retail prices from a dealer. You could also try some BMW specialist wrecking yards.

Ipod adapter. Search on DICE. --> http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=254548

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I don't know much about the interior of the 04 X3's. In the old days we would use vinyl paint. If its not leather I am sure there are paints that will accomodate you. Check Dupont's website.

You can also call a body shop as they would be best at this.

The next vehicle I get I am having the special dupont clear armor done on the front to prevent chipping at a body shop I am familiar with.

Interesting interior combo...any chance it could have been a BMW Individual (special order) car? For a price, BMW Individual will let you pick pretty much any color combination from an expanded palette of options, good taste notwithstanding. I've seen some very nice Individual cars, and some that were, well, let's just say "ordered without regard to potential resell value."

It should be easy enough to swap out the console lid. The carpet is another issue, unless the grey is limited to floor mats, in which case simply pick up some new ones at your local friendly BMW dealer or off eBay.

Good luck and welcome.

this link takes you to an online manual where you can learn how to access "the trip computer so it shows how many gallons of gas / miles per gallon" etc.
