k so i just bought this about three months ago for 500 hun.... what a steal. Nothin wrong with it EXCEPT its got a real loud "thump" noise if i let off the clutch too hard or if i let off the throttle then hit it real quick. Any suggestions on what it might be?
Center support bearing my friend! need to get the car up in the air, remove the heat shields, possibly exhaust (not sure) and remove the driveshaft. It has to be preloaded or it will be destroyed quickly! Here is a link:
k well i got my car on a lift checked the center support bearing and everythng... it was fine.. didnt worry bout it till just tonight. was drinving bout 50mph dropped it to 3rd gear and heard that noise again. This time it was alot louder. went around a corner in 2nd and as i speed up felt a shaking. also there has been a buzer going off in 1st and 2nd for the last 2 weeks. Now it does it till third gear. my door always locks all 4 doors at the same time and that stoped as soon as that buzzer noise started.....any relation? think spider gears could b messed up or i need a newer or new rear end?
Other source for the "thumping" noise is the differential mount. get it back on the lift and take a look at it. Also look at the "dog bones" and rear subframe bushings while you are there. As for the "jumpy" idle it could be the idle control valve or the idle control module (not sure if your car has it). Clean the valve first with carburator cleaner and if that doesn't help test everything following the procedure in the Bentley's manual.
