That's great news, but it's definitely going to be met with some skepticism. Plus, the X3 isn't built in Germany, or by BMW for that matter. It's built by a subcontractor in Arnold Schwarzenegger's hometown of Graz, Austria.

Its a problem with all subcontractors, to keep and to get assembly they must do better job than orderer can. Same with Porche, all cars ( Boxsters)what are build in Finland have a better quality than in Germany.

The information was based upon information gathered by "Dekra" a German based company. Hmmm no bias there I bet.

Here's a little story about the Graz plant:

Magna Steyr's Graz Facility Honored With J.D. Power Gold Plant Quality Award - an Industry First for a Supplier

AURORA, Ontario, June 9 /PRNewswire/ --

Magna International Inc. today announced that its Magna Steyr unit has won a J.D. Power Gold Plant Quality Award in Europe for its vehicle assembly facility in Graz, Austria. It is the first time this award has been given to a supplier.

The Gold Plant Quality Award, announced June 7 with the release of the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Initial Quality Study, recognizes that Magna Steyr's Graz facility produces vehicles with the fewest number of defects as compared to other European vehicle assembly facilities.

The Graz facility has a long-standing tradition in vehicle production starting in 1906 as Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG, which Magna acquired in 1998. Today, eight different vehicles are built by Magna Steyr in Graz: the BMW X3, Chrysler Voyager/Grand Voyager, 300C sedan and Touring; Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander; Mercedes-Benz E class 4MATIC and G class; and Saab 9-3 convertible. In 2005, the Graz facility built more than 230,000 vehicles.

"We are extremely proud to win such a distinguished award," said Siegfried Wolf, co-chief executive officer of Magna International. "This award is the result of the efforts of Magna Steyr's hard-working employees, who make a commitment to quality every day, as well as the unique partnerships that Magna Steyr has forged with its customers."

Magna Steyr is the premier global supplier of complete vehicle engineering and assembly services for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers. Magna International Inc., which ranks among the world's largest suppliers to the automotive industry, employs over 84,000 people at 224 manufacturing divisions and 60 engineering centers in 22 countries.

IMO the complaints you read here are design issues not manufacturing. Magna does a stellar job building the X3.

True and I hope Magna does the X1 so I can do another ED after the X3 moves to SC.

Cheers

While I really don't know who ADAC is, I would venture that the break down records they keep are much more accurate in determining overall reliability.

Asking a typical housewife about auto reliability will yield 1,000 different responses for the same issue. Not very scientific.

ADAC is kind of like the AAA of Europe.

Not that I am a housewife, I am a business owner; however, I think there are a few women who would take offense to your statement.

There are many men and women on these boards with varying points of views on the issues surrounding their vehicles. Maybe YOU pay for YOUR woman's car, but I always pay for my own. I would also hazard to guess that just like many of my female friends who own their BMWs, housewives can determine the difference between a pedal and a steering wheel.

Sorry I meant no offense. I was referring to a typical demographic and could have chosen my words more carefully. Please accept my apologies. :)

HG, If that housewife thing fired you up, how about this, I think you better change your MLB photo as I am pretty sure that Rollins jinxed the Phil's by saying that and now you're keeping it going. ;)

Nope, doesn't bother me...his quote not mine...and until next October the Phillies are the reigning National League champs.

The title doesn't end at the beginning of the season.

I thought it was just me......I was thinking maybe I read the post wrong or something. But now I think maybe HG132 is in denial about the whole sweep thing. :dunno:
