I'm frantic. Backed out of my long driveway with no problem, forgot something, tried to turn around in a neighbor's driveway and the gear shift knob pulled off when I tried to put it in reverse. I replaced the knob, but now the car will only operate in drive or neutral....no reverse, no park, no other drive gears. Will only move between neutral and drive.
The car has 90K miles on it and is in excellent condition, having been well maintained with all service records. PLEASE tell me the transmission hasn't gone out! I've pulled the gear shift off accidentally on a couple of other occasions and replaced it with no problems resulting.
Any ideas? Thanks.
