I need to replace the shift bushings in my 323is and am contemplating a short shift while I'm at it, using a stock E46 325Xi lever (p/n 25 11 1 434 148). I've read a few articles recommending this as an alternative to some of the more expensive SSKs, depending on your objectives. I am not looking for anything too drastic - just something that will reduce the throw a bit, while still shifting cleanly.
Anyone have any experience with this swap? I was wondering what the consensus is, and also whether I'll have to bend or otherwise modify the selector rod when I pop in the new lever...
