It has disappeared. They probably integrated it into the control display

Awww come on Alex, didn't you hear, we have to be different in order to differentiate a BMW from the rest of the automobiles....
Besides, the new E60 is cryogenically cooled so engine temps are not an issue anymore...

Hehe, yeah, but that's just wrong. Temp gauge is one of the most important things in the car and I'd prefer to have it in front of my eyes, instead of pressing some buttons to see it :tsk:

For all the good the electronically buffered temp guage in my E46 does, I may as well just have an engine temp idiot light.

Univers Condensed, people!
The new gauges are wack.
IIRC the E65 only has an idiot light for coolant temp.
Since most cars nowadays seem to only have cold/OK/overheat modes on their gauges anyhow, I guess this isn't a major loss.

One more thing I just noticed (and another reason to dislike the e60)-- did you notice how the steering wheel buttons are flat rather than nicely sculpted (as our current sport wheel buttons are). Looks like another small cost-cutting move.

However, I doubt very much it has anything to do with cost -- there isn't any cost difference with injection-moulding the shaped buttons vs. the flat ones.
Rather, I think it's just a style conflict... Some out-of-touch Bangelized designer opined that it looks "better". :dunno:

I am just glad I got my 03' 5er before these new monstrosities destroy BMWs reputation of superior design:cry:

It depends on how you look at it. IMHO, they are not monstrosities at all, but an example of Chris Bangle's revolutionary design scheme.
