Nice ride.

The shopn' is supposed to be artistic. Not what I'd do myself, but who's to say. It ususally takes a few years to learn less is more, but there's always differing tastes.

Yeah - I'm real interested in the chip/throttle body mods too. Tell us more. Does it meer Dinan's claims? Not sure I'd chrome the wheels from a strength standpoint, but that's not really my field of expertise.

I'd like to see more of the Aero package, and some drag numbers if available. Anybody consider losing the roof rails? I wonder what they cost us in mpg. Tried to haul a few 2x4's home last week and it wasn't pretty.

Anybody know of a kit for a higher 6th gear? Gas mileage over 4k is less than I'd like for extended runs. (There's an advantage to living in the middle of nowhere. <g>)

their summer Goodyear eagle F 1 GS D3's ... much much more grip than the stock Dunlop summers that come with sport pak stock

a little $$$ thought... about 1600 for the set and that was from tire rack but well worth it and amazing in the rain

and there 235 front

and 255 rear .... both 18's

and to the 150 plus thing it was actually very very stable but i bumped the pressure up to

40 psi all around from my usual 38

and no real buffeting except a slightly leaky sunroof and vibrating wipers

thanks for the comments guys i'd love to talk about more :)

I can do a picture of 155 in the X3 as well. Simply get into the hidden on-board computer menu, get to menu item 2, hit reset, and voila, you get a full gauge sweep, and all the dash and pixel lights come on. That's why you have a 155mph shot of of the speedometer..........with the cruise control light on.

Az, I hope you're right , because if he was doing 155 with the leaking sunroof & vibrating wipers, that means he was doing 155 in the rain....
Unless he was on a closed track (which I doubt), that is very irresponsible behavior.

The same process can be used for any late model BMW. Most of the newer ones (not the X3) have a "lock code" you have to input first, which is the sum of the last 5 VIN digits. In addition, menu item #8 on the E90 displays the actual and analog/speedometer speed in 8.0 and 8.1 respectively. Not critically important on the X3, but the E90 lacks a engine temp gauge, which is err, problematic at times.

Unfortunately, no. You can't actually program anything, its just information for people like me, who like lots of information. Like the instant fuel consumption or actual speed :p. By the way, with instant fuel consumption, you can tell when the torque converter is fully locked up as well.

My X3 doesn't have the annoying seat belt chime, but my parents' 325i does. And yes, it is fairly irritating but its rarely triggered because it doesn't go into effect until you start moving. In a lot of American cars (and Toyota), it goes off even if you unbuckle it at a stoplight to take off your jacket or retrieve something from the rear seat.

BMW enthusiasts typically frown on posers...no need to impress us with delusions of grandeur with your "Amazing X3" (which really isn't that amazing, is it?). Unfortunately, you've lost any credibility that you've garnered with your 11 posts, which wasn't much to start with.

HAHAHAHA I'm still laughing.... This is sooo funny! Poser's!!! God I love them!!!!

Amazing X3? HA! I dont give a heck what you do to it, it is a FAMILY CAR!!! (albiet with some fun sporty characteristics) Not a track car.....GEEZ DUDE! IF that is really your ride, just think of all that money you have put in it.... and think about the fact that you could have picked up an e46 M3..... poor soul....But then again you prob. dont need a real track car anyway.... I'm sorry guys I am way too traditional here... I'm not much of a "moder" unless of course it is Dinan upgrades on an M car....

Hmmmm...trying a little too hard to impress. If you honestly went 150 like you say, that was pretty stupid. But, kids will do stupid things as I can attest to considering what I did 20 yrs or so ago. Hopefully it was in the middle of nowhere.
Nice looking car, but looks a lot like most here, albeit for the rims. I looked into the Dinan upgrades for the X3, and was unimpressed by the predicted gains for the amount of money that was necesssary. Still would be nice to get a little more out of it, but not at that cost.

It always annoys me how there's a rear foglight symbol on the dash but we don't have the frickin hardware to enable it. And that the '04s are missing a door ajar indicator........

Honestly, I have a really hard time believing that the X3 can go 250 km/h (****ph). I mean, the old X5 V8s topped out at right around that same speed w/o the limiter, and they had over 300 horsepower. I think that given even moderate power upgrades, the X3 might push 235km/h but that's about it. Plus, don't forget that speedometer error.

I would be willing to share the cost of the Euro light switch with someone who has a 2007/2008 X3 and can figure out a way to obtain the required part from Europe (US dealers say they can't order the part). I did this on my E92 and believe the Euro switch would do the trick. If you're NY Metro, I would even help with the install.

I would bet that it can do 250 km/h (unless it's got a limiter). A number of years ago I was in Munich for several weeks. The 3 cylinder Fiat diesel, which was totally gutless, could do 220. Granted it handled like s**t at that speed.

Yeah, I don't think HP and torque have much to do with top speed. They just help you get there faster. Gearing will be the key determining factor if I'm not mistaken. At 80 mph our X3 runs a tad over 3k rpm in 6th gear, so it's got quite a bit left before redline.

AzNMpower32
02-08-2008, 07:19 AM
I know that in my X3 with the automatic, I'm likely guessing top speed will be achieved in 4th, not 5th gear. It doesn't have enough power at the rpms in 5th to accelerate; I've gone 185 km/h (in a far away place from civilization) in the X3 and that was in 4th, and I had a feeling it was nearing the top end.

Hmm...the procedure on an E46 (which I think the E83 shares a lot with) is not this simple, but requires reprogramming the DME at the dealership.

I have never seen but 2 of those instrument cluster lights on. I could probably look it up, but just curious. What is the icon to the right of the high beam? What is the icon to the left of the seatbelt warning? Why does you gear selector display area have so many light configurations? The left character can only say "M" or "S" right?

Left of the high beam is the battery warning indicator, telling you that something has failed and that the battery is not being recharged while driving. (It does NOT tell you your battery is dead)

Left of the seat belt is the airbag warning light. It does a few things that are considered normal, and a few things that aren't. Owner's manual says what.

I don't know why the gear indicator has so many pixels. Do I look like a BMW engineer?
