I just got a 1986 535i today. It's in great shape and has 180k miles on it. Basically got it for my daughter but am going to have fun driving it during the next few months until she gets her license (she has her permit now). I know there are going to be some issues to work through since it is a 22 yr old car but I'm hoping that I'll be able to find help when needed here...:)

i owned a 85 535i and i changed out the idle control valve, airmass flow sensor and the carrier bearing. One thing to remember is always buy the parts online i got a set of oem rotors and pads all around. For $200 and thats with the shipping and i called around town and they wanted triple the price i paid. try www.autohausaz.com and www.oem-bmw-parts.com

Welcome and congratulations on getting a great car! You can also find a TON of information on www.mye28.com. Once you get there, on the Want to Buy / For sale (WTB/FS) section they have a list of vendors you can get parts from. I've used Steve Haygood (he owns an e28!) with excellent results and always a great price!

Good Luck!
