hey guys you always have the answeres so i got a good one for you! 97 318IS never had a problem with the trunk before. few degrees below zero couple days in a row and out of nowhere my trunk wont close. it just bounces open . the lock mechanism appears to be working fine. if i pushe the lever closed it locks fully engaged. then i push the trunk release button on the trunk and the lock disengages perfectly. the bolt on the trunk frame looked to have loosened and lowered slightly so i tried to adjust the bolt and raise it but the lock still wont grip. the alarm goes off because the trunk is open so i cant use the alarm!! please please help me out!!!

On the trunk lid itself, is the mechanism responsible for trunk lock. Once in awhile for reasons only known to BMW, this mechanism becomes mis-aligned. When this happens, you won't be able to close and secure your trunk.

You'll need to re-align this mechanism to the latch on the car. Usually, you need to bend this mechanism back towards the rear bumper to get it to operate again.

yep Marys right if you have no joy lining the lock up with the bolts then you have to grab hold of the lock and bend it towards you the part of the boot which holds the lock is quite thin so tends to bend just bend it back

check the spring that connects the trunk latch to the metal arm that exteds over to the lock. one end of the spring may have broken off. I just fixed mine tonight.
