View Full Version : Performance center delivery where?
I am moving from California to Florida and I would like to pick up my mew 135i at the PCD and drive on to Florida.
My question is should I buy it from my dealer here in Northern California or try to buy it from a dealer in Florida? I plan on flying from California to SC and then drive to Florida so the car will never be in California. Also how does the license plate work for the few days you are driving to your home? Any advice will be appreciated.

You can go with any dealer in the country, whichever one you're more comfortable with.
As for plates, they'll assign you temp SC plates if you haven't gotten your FL ones yet. Those should be good for a few days from my understanding..

Pick the dealer where you live. The better your relationship with a dealer, the better the support you get.

One big thing to consider...******s tax. Compare CA to FL.

Sales tax in Florida is either 6% or 7% depending on the County you live in.

Can you buy it say from a non-tax state and then register it in your state without paying taxes?

Not in NY. When you first register the car, you either prove you paid tax at the time of purchase, or you pay it to DMV when you register.

Typically, yes. Ask the dealer in the state where you are buying the car as there is no federal law regulating the practice.

It depends on the state. Here in NC, you pay tax not when you buy, but rather when you register, so that loophole doesn't exist :(

I think I misunderstood dkotanto's message. I believed he was inquiring if it was required to pay tax twice. I didn't believe anyone would want to cheat the government. :)
While perusing the Florida government website it says that no sales tax is owed if you take delivery outside of the state. Has anybody in Florida been able to do that?

The Florida Dept. of Revenue is very aggressive collecting sales tax as there is no state income tax. I moved here from CA a number of years ago. You will need to change the car title from whatever the origianal titling state to FL before you would get a FL registration. You will be required to show that you payed sales tax and at the same rate as the FL rate or else FL will collect the tax or any difference between what you already paid and what would be due in FL.
Like RD suggested above, if you haven't already ordered the car you'd be better off buying from a dealer in your new location.
Thanks guys appreciate all the info.
