length

or were you looking for a numerical value?

er, not sure...just didn't know the difference, so the "L" is longer? More interior or trunk space?

Increased leg-room for rear passengers. Several inches right after the B-pillar, you can see the difference in rear doors, they are visible longer.

They also didn't make the sport package for the 740il, did they?

Yes, they sure did.

My buddy in Seattle has a 2001 740iL with SP. It is quite a beast!

I bought a 740IL, I love it, I'm very tall (6'9") and this is the car for the tall exec. only problem is the outdated electronics in the 2001 and the @$$@#^ "service engine soon" light comes on for 100 different reasons. I love driving my car, the the next purchase will be japanese if this doesn't stop!

Hey Wong,

at this link http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/22364 that you provided, I found this text :

" excessive wind noise from the sunroof (make sure all four "lift pads" are present under the car). "

so I checked the lift pads and they were two missing. I bought them and pluged em in, but I am still hearing that wind noise.........any suggestions?

Please give your suggestions here http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180732 so I can keep track.....

Thanks ins advance.

i am new to bimmerfest. i bought my first bmw about a month ago and it is a 740il 1995 looks new and runs great. can anybody tell me if this is an e65 series, and what motor this is?

M.Wong
06-18-2007, 05:49 PM
The 1995 740iL is an E38 and came with the 4.0 V8 "M60" engine. All 7 series from 1995-2001 are E38s. The 2002-current short wheelbase 7er is an E65, long is an E66.

However, some 1995 engines were changed out due to a "Nikasil" block issue. More info on that here: Koala Motor Sport report on the 1995 E38 V8 (http://www.koalamotorsport.com/article-m60v8.asp)

Ok so I own a 93 740iL and I've been looking at some rims, particularly the ones that are in a picture above. I went to the bmw dealer to check them out and they want $650 per rim. Thats insane! Is that a ridiculous price? I know its forged aluminum but still....Does anyone have a set of those rims that might possibly want to sell them for a reasonable price?

I have an E38 and just moved from New Orleans (SE Louisiana) to Lafayette (SW Louisiana) and wanted to know how to go about getting a new CD (other than buying one at a dealer).

You might try e-bay, or find someone who bought the set and is parting out the CDs they don't need...

For example: here (http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/373914).

Please read before you post an E38 related question here. :)

You will have better luck posting a new thread with a detailed title.

Please don't just put "I have a question" in the title, make sure it says "I have a question about ______."

You should always post your year with build date and model.

Thanks!

We drove our 97 740iL from IN to CA and back with over 6,000 miles on it. It's a great grand touring vehicle with a lot of power. The downside is that we lost some cooling fluid in high attitude area like the Grand Canyon and Zion. Other than that, the car went smoothly throughout the trip. Now it's time to take it to the shop to see what's with the cooling lose and others.

i can't seem to access the Seattle 7 page- just the intro, any help? also, i'm assuming you must be in Seattle to join-b/c i do quite a bit interstate driving, so say i wanted to join one of the groups, seattle7 or Socal(7?), i might head cross country on occassion, could still meet up. is that a possibility? thanks guys.

Oh, sorry... no it's just "in general" since this sticky post does not always get checked by the same readers/wealth of knowledge who might be able to answer technical questions. :)

Matt Atkins of the Seattle5s has intended to get the website back in order, but the guys who have been most active with such things have been really busy. If you head westward, you can e-mail him at matkins@seattle5s.com -There is nothing to really "join" as it's somewhat informal. Just watch the message boards for when people are going to meet, and show up! :) Do you make it this far west???

Occasionally. I might make a road trip NY to LA spring break, next year, if not this one, appreciate the tips, though. tough to work around the college terms and jobs though. what can i say? i'm a man who loves the road, hahaha. i can also appreciate those who post in the wrong threads, sorry, i have been known to be sent off in random directions-someone will say, the problem with the 335-and ill start asking about AWD technology, hahaha

Impressed by your collection, by the way. of course, your 7 caught my eye first and foremost, haha. thanks again for the tips, i've saved matt atkins' email into my address book. Thanks, and who knows, we may cross roads, all the best

When you head to L.A. do a search for "SoCal7s" over here: Search (http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/e38/search/?q=socal7s&forum=e38). You should be able to find the most active guys and e-mail them to find out if they have plans...

thanks for the links, and the help, Mark. It's a shame i live in upstate NY, that's it's such a drive, otherwise i'd come sooner, but in due time. thanks for the contacts, etc. All i can say is that i'm a sucker for E38's, but my fav still reigns from 95-99-lol.got that real traditional look, haha. you know of any E38 groups around me? (You can pm me)-then suggest a group of us come down to LA! be well

Rather than adding to this thread, you should have better results if you post a new thread with a descriptive title like

"My 2001 740 smokes when I first crank it."

Please read - rather than posting a new E38 related question here. :)

You will have better luck posting a new thread with a detailed title.

If it is a 7 or 8 series, here:
7 & 8 Series (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=36)

But if it's a 2002 or newer 7 series, here:
E65/66 7 Series (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=126)

Please don't just put "I have a question" in the title, make sure it says "I have a question about ______."

You should always post your year with build date and model.

Thanks!
