Bought a used AA Tuning CAI with the double insulated wall and the grill top to keep the engine's hot air away from the intake....decided against the Dinan Type because of risk of water ingestion here in rainy Seattle...

However I've seen where one can move the horn and open up the top of the disk brake duct which should let lots of cold outside air in for the intake (the actual K&N filtered intake is still high enough to avoid any water ingestion)...

Any advice before I begin installation ???

a little too late, but I dont think water ingestion is a huge problem. My air filter is located down beneath the brake duct opening for my SC. I was worried about the blower sucking in water, but havent had problems in the few rainy days here in socal.

My biggest concern though is that the filter gets wet from being where it is, and I dont know if thats a good thing or not. Im wondering if that affects the filtration.

The AA Tuning CAI insulated heat shield is installed, the new air intake runner and the K&N filter is also in place (with the filter tucked down behind the headlight)....

But now I've bent the horn up and out of the way so I could figure out how to cut open the top of the disk brake cooling duct which is down there at the bottom of all of this to let in some truly cool outside air.....

My theory is that the K&N intake filter is high enough that water ingestion won't be an issue and I really want to get that cold outside air.....

If some of you have already done this then please enlighten me before I cut up my disk brake cooling intake.....

Marty,
ya wanna hook up this weekend and put our heads together? maybe I'll do it too.

It shouldn't be too awfully hard, I've even got a spare duct you can have if it gets messed up.

In casy everyone doesn't know Marty has my cars twin. :D

Actually I'm going to try to complete my CAI installation this weekend and I have a neighbor with an M Roadster who wants to stop by and install his new intake....

I'll email you directions...it would be great to get the twin M3's together...and I want to hear about the lapping day last weekend .....you blew through a pair of SO'3s..*****!! Racing is one expensive hobby......

Tires were a bit past half tred, now they are down to the wear bars. You can check them out Saturday..I'll stop by..what time is good? We can go check out the dyno day and I have to hook up with Stan to get some track wheels and tires off him.

Well I completed the straightforward parts of the CAI install... now to see if Doug can help with the HP boosting cold air intake......I cut a 2 inch round hole in the disk brake cooling duct...so now cold air can enter directly below the new CAI...the problem is there's lots of stuff in the way primarily one of the horns.....

My guesses are perhaps we can relocate the horn (short wire and wierd shape) or perhaps one can snake a 1.5 or 2 inch flexible tube around the horn as Doug suggested...

Saturday should be fun.....

I'm thinking we can steal an idea from the Euro intake snorkel...
