Anyone got a long strong rope:cry: to hang myself.
I was driving my car today and I over reved my car whilst over taking someone. Then it was like the accelerater was stuck down as it was racing away at 3,5 to 4000 rpm. Seems to have stopped that but now there is a sort of electrical humming coming from the top of the engine and you can feel this if you place your hand on the top of the engine when the ignitition is on and now also the cooling fan come on, which never used to hardly come on even when sitting in traffic!
The engine is not knocking or anything like that but there was not much oil on the dipstick even though the oil was changed under two tanks worth of fuel ago
I do not know if the rev limter kicked in but maybe it did thats why the car was racing afterwards.
Please ,life bloody ****e at the moment with out this happening

3.5-4000 rpm shouldnt damage your car since it should be able to go upto 7000 rpm and think i heard the rev limiter kicks in at 6500rpm. The fan comes on when the engine needs extra cooling when its hot and also possibly to assist with the AC (not sure about the AC thing).

Think the standard answer for the oil is check the exhaust for blue smoke (means gasket cracked?) and leaky hoses under the car as well.

but thats just general stuff... some of the other guys know a LOT more so wait for them ;)

maybe the throttle control link or somethin to do with the throttle? (again may be better off waiting for a person who is more mechanically minded and knowledgeable)

Try cleaning your throttle body mate, maybe gundged up!!

Also, spray WD-40 (or similar) onto the linkages as they maybe full of grit

Possibly a failing accelerator cable.

check your oil more often. like every time you fill up with petro sounds like something just got hung up on the throttle linkage somewhere.
