I'm getting my tires (http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AB2&url=index.jsp) replaced because the rears are badly worn on the inner third of the tread. I'm having them drop shipped from tirerack (http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AB2&url=index.jsp).com to a shop (not BMW dealer).
My question is, does an alignment on an E60 with active steering (I also have active roll stabilization) have to be done by the dealer, or can any competent shop do it (the shop actually specializes in alignments). I seem to recall reading that the dealer needs to do the alignment because AS needs to be reset afterwards, but someone told me that wasn't true.
Anybody know for sure? The cost is a toss up--it's more of a convenience thing to have the shop that's installing my new tires (http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AB2&url=index.jsp) do it.
