I followed one of these down the road for a bit this morning. Those tires are huge!
It looked to be the Tasman Green color, debadged (no roundel even) and wearing distributor plates.
Given its size, I was surprised how quick it was and I was tempted to follow as it turned off towards a twisty road so I could see how it handled the curves but I headed to work instead :(

None of the pictures I've seen so far can accurately depict the true likeness of it. If I have to use one word to describe, it's MASSIVE. The overall height is quite a bit lower than the X5 but the rear end is just huge, especially with the insane 315/35/20 rear tires.

Yeah, Massive is the word. I personally like the size, love the rear and overall design. I'm it drives as well as people are describing (my CA drove it to the gas station for the Komen event, and told me it is drives fantastic for a large SAV). Unfortunately, my wife said it was too large for a DD, so she is looking again at a 550i.
Still, expect it will sell oodles.

PS> From the drivers seat the M3 seemed "tamer" overall than the M Coupe to me. Perhaps "practicality" has tainted my opinion...

I just saw 2 at my dealership this evening. I'm going to be flamed for this, but the rear really looks ugly. The car looked good in the early pictures, but in person...nahhhhh :thumbdwn:

Sorry for the long writeup.
I stopped by my local dealer yesterday. My CA told me that the X6 was in, however, the official BMW launch date isn’t until the April 25th, so they aren’t giving out test drives yet.
He did take me to the service bay where it was kept hidden from the public eye. To my surprise, it was space grey. I was expecting it in Vermillion Red as others have posted.
From afar, the car’s front end was facing me. It didn’t look that big. My first thought was, “Hey. That looks like a 6 series raised”. Clearly the roofline wasn’t as tall as the X5 and made the car look more like a sports car than a truck.
As I walked towards it, the size grew pretty quickly. From all the web photos posted, I was concerned of the looks of the front two air dams. It person, it wasn’t an issue. Often times, camera angles really make cars look different.
I proceeded to walk around the exterior of the car first. I was disappointed in the wheels they equipped this unit with. I’m a strong proponent of the larger 20” sport package upgrades. In some photos, I was even afraid that they 20” would be too small for such a large body. Albiet the smaller rims didn’t look bad, they just didn’t blow me away. But it did reassure me that 20” would not be too small on this vehicle. The side view looked fine.
It didn’t have running boards, so I can quite comment on that aesthetic aspect. I love the looks of the running boards on a X5, really need to see how they look on a X6 in person to decide.
The big shocker to me was when I was heading towards the rear end. At about a 45 degree angle to the car, I thought the back tail-lights were dented! I thought to myself, “Ha, that’s the real reason why this car isn’t in the showroom yet. They need to fix the lights! Someone must have had too much fun with the car already”. But as I continued to the rear, I found out that the lights were NOT dented. They have a very distinct edge to it. From many photos, I thought the taillight units were curved all around. It might have been the lighting also. But I’m actually glad it’s not all curved. That would have been too bland. I think it’ll be something that will grow on a person.
The rear itself is huge. The smaller rims gave the rear a weak look. It definitely needed wider tires. The tailpipes were too small. I don’t like those round tailpipes. (But then this is coming from someone who opted for a X5 4.8 because of the tailpipes and rims).
The front interior of the car resembled an X5, so I didn’t spend too much time there. The side bolsters, nice touch. But the back seats were a different story. The center console in the 2nd row is much larger than it appears in pictures. Very nice. I’m 5’ 8” and didn’t have any problems getting in and out of the car. Though no where near touching the roof, it definitely feels like my head could. Not roomy like an X5, but definitely gives it a more sporty feel in the back.
Overall, the car looks great. I’m sure it’ll drive great too. It’s definitely for a specific market. Just wish I fell into that market too (but need additional seating capacity).

When we had our First Drive in BMW's new X6 Sport Activity Coupe, we didn't get the opportunity to really measure fuel consumption, since the vehicles were gassed-up when we got behind the wheel and were then refuelled during our lunch break. A glance at the on-board computer of the '35i we drove on the long route through the mountains indicated about 13.5 mpg which is nothing to write home about. The other day, BMW sent us the preliminary EPA numbers for the X6 which came in at 15/20/17mpg city/highway/combined for the turbo six cylinder model. The 404hp turbo V-8 completed the test cycles with ratings of 13/18/15mpg. When the two-mode hybrid version of the version of the X6 debuts in 2009, it will be combined only with the V-8 engine. With an expected 25 percent improvement overall, the X6 hybrid should hit about 18-19mpg combined.

Overall, it looks fine with me with the exception of the roofline. Why do they extend the roofline down so much? It looks like the roof of a Nissan Maxima. With such a short rear glass and an insanely huge rear end, it seems out of proportion. A black one should look more decent since the roof and glass can blend in better.

Sat in one today at Apple BMW in York PA and it is very slick.
Looks really good in the flesh although this one was a yucky green (not the color's official name I'm sure).

I saw the X6 at BMW Seattle this weekend. Wow, that sucker is gorgeous, big, and expensive. The rear tires were incredibly wide. It doesn't come across in this photo, but believe me you'll notice in person.
Overall it looks great, but with no manual transmission option and at $66K, I'll stick with my X3 ;)
