My 92 325i's ecu doesn't detect faults in many of the sensors that the rest of the e36s and i'm thinking that one of these sensors may be failing. What are the symptoms of a failing crankshaft or camshaft? My car is hesitating intermediately at low RPMs in second and sometimes third gear. It will also stall occasionally while shifting from first to second. I've swapped out a MAS and TPS, to no effect. also if the car stalls while shifting to second, the RPMs go to zero even though the car is in gear and moving. Should this be happening. thanks

I own a 1997 318is and my camshaft sensor is on its way out right now. When im driving i'll loose all power and sometimes it will shut my car right off as a safty percausion. And If it doesnt shut the car off my rpms will go right down to an almost stall than correct itself again. But my engine check light did NOT come on when i was having a camshaft sensor fault. The engine check light usually comes on when its emissions related.. well thats what the book says.
Good luck

Today I tested both the cam and the crankshaft sensors. The Bentley only gives a test for the crankshaft sensor, it calls for 1280 ohms +-10%. The sensor was approx 600 ohms, so according to the Bentley should be replaced. The cam sensor, which there is no test for, was at 1290 ohms. You've got to assume this sensor has very similar, if not the same, internal parts. The exteriors are slightly different). I guess I'm going to change it out and see what happens. What do you guys think. I'm going crazy here, trying to fix my hesitation/stalling problem.

Hmm all i can really sudjest is if you do decide to buy a crankshaft sensor you should try and get it used at http://www.bmrparts.com/index.htm . They are good i orded a cam sensor and it was $60 with 6 month warrenty, reg 120 or something like that. Anyways good luck with that.

Damn it, the brand new crankshaft sensor is 540ohms, the god damn bentley calls for 1280 +-10% ohms, or else it is bad and you should replace. What hell is going on here???
