Hi, for the past few weeks when i've started my car from cold it doesn't idle well and sounds really rough but then seems to get better after about half an hour. I was wondering is it just due to its age as its 12 years old and has covered 116,000 miles? Is it because its just the cold winter mornings? Or is it due to a problem?

Thank you

Are you sure its for a half hour? Mine idles rough on cold startup until it warms up, but not for a half hour!

I hope you were just exagerating.

Give her a service mate

New oil, oil filter, fuel filter and plugs and see if it helps

I agree, I would start with that first.

Well its bout 20 mins on cold mornings say below 0 degrees C but on warmer mornings like 5 degrees C its bout 10 to 15 mins. Sorry half an hour was a bit of an exageration.
I did an oil and filter change a few weeks back but i will sort new plugs and fuel filter and see if that helps.

Thank you

What year, what type are we talking about .Do what pirate copy suggests.when you change your plugs pay close attention to them, the colour will tell you a story. pull your codes and get back with more information.

Its a 1995 1.6 e36 so it will be the M43 engine. Haven't changed spark plugs yet but will sort it within the next few days.

Thank you
