Hi,

I have a 1998 M3 convertible. The Bentley manual seems to imply that the M3 front control arm bushings are not replaceable as they are on non-M3 E36s. Does this mean that the control arm bracket and bushing must be replaced as a unit?

I looked at a few BMW supply web sites and it looks like it is possible to just buy the bushings.

What do you folks do when the bushings are gone?

Thank you,

Jim

The bushings are replaceable, the ball joints are not.

Thanks,

That is what I thought.

But you need a special tool to remove the bushing of the end of the control arm, its not as easy as it looks, its very decieving. The tool is about $50 from bimmertools, and it makes the job fairly simple.

Good luck.

Not true. We have removed many bushings without the tool. But the tool is easier.

And the trick to installing the bushings is a drop or two of Dawn. We tried lots of things, but Dawn works the best.
