If I put a full size spare tire in my trunk equipped with the same TPMS sensor that the mounted ones have, will this screw up my car's computer (2008 335xi)? Does the monitoring system get confused if there are five tires with sensors rather than the usual four?

I put on 4 non-runflats from tirerack with TPMS sensors, so sometimes I put one of the stock wheels in the trunk for long trips and I haven't had any problems. This is on a 2008 328i.

the computer only monitors the ones active when the system is reinitialized.
leave the spare out of the trunk while the system learns the four that are on the car.

I was hoping the pressure monitoring system worked like you describe. It makes sense that it would. But one never knows. I have the wheel already. I have ordered the tire and the sensor and the tire will probably be here, mounted and balanced by the end of next week. I will try to remember to report back and confirm no problem.

Nope and I can say that from experience. I had new rims/tires put on with TPMS sensors and they put my stock tires in the back seat for a total of 8! No problemo :)
