can a road bike fit in the trunk??? what about with the handlebars and seat removed? I blew all my money on a bike, clothing and accessories and have no more for a trunk rack. Let alone those fancy hitch mounts some of you pulled off.

Additional question: for the future anyone have a trunk rack that works successfully with no dents or scratches? I know miata guys like the Bones RS but that won't fit on a Z4.

TIA!

I was really hoping that I could get a bike in my M (less trunk space than a Z4 due to the battery). One look back there after I got the car and I could tell it wasn't even worth my effort to pull the bike apart.

You can afford a z4 but not a bike rack?

Whatever you do avoid those racks that hook into the inside of the trunk and rest on the outside with foam padded supports, they will mess up your paint. I got one at target or walmart or something that I used on an old beater car that I didn't care about and it definitely left a mark. I'm sure you've seen them, they have fabric cables that run into the trunk with hooks at the end. I would only do a hitch mount if I needed to put a rack on my Z4.

Just from memory, I think a bike might fit if you took off both wheels. I fit large guitar cases in my roadster trunk. Have you tried dissassembling it? Maybe you could wrap a wheel or two in clean canvas and put it in the front seat if they don't both fit in the trunk? It would probably be quicker than waiting for an answer. That would be the safest route to go as far as your paint is concerned.

You should get the euro trailer hitch, then get one of those bike racks that plug into the hitch.

I truely don't want to spend any more money on the car or the bike. If it's at all possible I'd prefer for now sticking the bike in the car. I don't have the bike yet (not until friday) so i cannot try it on my own.

I have never tried taking the bike a part but I am sure you will be able to put part of the bike in your front seat and the frame in the trunk. You may also have to take the handle bars off which will really blow the bike fit. If you are a series road biker, and the Z4 is your only option, you should really look into the hitches. It makes transporting the bike hassle free and you can still drive to the start in style. They hitch / rack combo are a bit pricey but well worth it for combining cycling with a Z4.

The MS150 bike ride from Houston to Austin was this past weekend which draws nearly 13,000 riders. I saw one guy hauling his bike to the start in a Boxter. He had the bike disassembled and strapped into his passenger seat! Funny looking but it worked!

I once got a very small 14" mountainbike back there just barely after removing both wheels and seat. The handlebars weren't easily removable so they stayed on. I don't want to go through that ordeal again.
