E38 Brakes, pads, and rotors.
What do people think of non-OEM brake parts? I don’t think I need cross drilled or slotted rotors. I am not unhappy with the braking performance of stock parts, and I think the longevity is worth while.
People seem to like Mintex Red Box pads for brake dust reduction, but they require alot of anti-squeal compound to prevent rattling. I am not sure if that means you have to be ready to tear it apart later and re-apply more?
I actually don’t mind brake dust too much because I wash the car every week, rain or shine. (You can’t wait for sunny days in Seattle, or the dirt and grime will sit on the paint for about five months through the fall and winter.)
So, when they are due, OEM parts? I have not done the work myself yet, but I’d like to try. Maybe I better practice on the E30 first!
On another note, how about painting the calipers, not too flashy like red or yellow, but maybe gloss black? Is there an easy way or product anyone recommends?
