It does a lot of things.
1. If you press once, it will give you sharper throaty control plus RPM increase.
2. If you press once and hold onto it for 5 sec, light will change orange to blue, then it will enable air suspension system and drop your car 1/2~1" lower plus things in #1.
3. If you press and hold for 5 seconds with your key at second turn (no engine running), then turn on your car, "launch control on" sign would appear on your cluster.
Then you can hold your engine idle at 5000rpm to enable launch control, but this only applies to manual drive cars.
4. If you press twice quickly, button will actually pop up and then you will be able to rotate your sports button clockwise in desirable NOS shot amount displayed on your cluster.
I do not recommend doing this sports mode with #3 (you will break your differential).
All these are addressed on your seprate owner's operation manual.
Good luck with it!

any need for the smart comments? was just a simple question that required a proper answer.
Ever thought I may not have access to the manual at the moment?
So please, honest answers will do.

Now I feel bad.
It could be easily searched in this forum or internet.
Here's quote from BMWUSA.com
Dynamic Driving Control (Sport Button) activates the Sport driving mode for quicker engine response on demand, reduced power-steering assist, and an additional Sport mode in models with optional STEPTRONIC automatic transmission.

does it use up more fuel or anything like that?
is it noticeable??

It makes the throttle touchier (i.e. a given amount of accelerator pedal travel with Sport mode ON corresponds to a greater amount of travel with Sport OFF). If you push the pedal harder you tend to use more gas, and engaging the Sport mode essentially lets you push the pedal harder with less effort.

as the throttle response is sharper, it makes driving a bit more fun if you have a manual transmission. for me it makes rev-matched down shifts easier to execute. i do not notice any difference in power steering effort though.
if you do have the auto, it will put the transmission in DriveSport mode, so it will indeed consume more fuel due to the fact that your car will always be in a lower gear than normal automatic. it will also downshift sooner and hold your gears longer for better acceleration...so yes, more consumption with the auto.
