To get to Fussen I took A96 to 17 (Romantic Road). When we headed over to Garmisch from Schwangau we took the Alpine Road (part of the route you are taking).

The following morning we took a southern route through Austria back to Nueschwanstein then took another route to Linderhof
Great driving roads. Check my report for the exact roads. It is on Days 10 & 11 I believe.

All comments or questions are welcome!

Comment #1: That has to be among the most reader-unfriendly ways of posting an itinerary I have ever seen. One has to follow the links and scroll down to find the end points for each day. Yuck! At a minimum, list the overnight stops in the main post.

Comment #2: Instead of spending the night in Freiburg, I'd pick one of the smaller, more picturesque places in the Schwarzwald. Some have really superb restaurants and inns. (E.g., Baiersbronn)

Comment #3: I agree with the post that this would be too many long driving days back-to-back for some. But that is up to you, I guess.

Long driving segments...sure. Could have written a more user-friendly post...sure.
BUT you're lined up to see some of the most beautiful countryside there is, and I'm sure you'll enjoy every bit of it!

A fact borne out by the paucity of replies here.

Thanks for the feedback!

The drive times are not bad for me… I like driving. I tried to keep my driving times under 4 hours per day (two in the morning, and two after lunch). The Saturday route is my longest at just under five hours (My link has an error… I am actually starting the day in Fussen, not Garmisch-Partenkirchen)

The same routes in my Garmin GPS tend to show shorter travel times than the Google maps, so I figured on Garmin as my best case & Google as my worst case.

You've got a couple of looong driving days there. That's ok if you like that sort of thing.

Have you lined up your hotels yet ?

I have some reservations through Hotels dot com... able to be cancelled without a charge. I used the Michelin Green Book & online ratings for some suggestions, then narrowed it down to the wife’s & my preferences.

Munich was a challenge for my arrival week. Apparently there is a large trade show that is causing all of the hotels to triple in price!

Other thoughts:

Don't bypass Triberg on your route from Freiburg to Baden-Baden. There is a nice little waterfall and a house sized cuckoo clock.

Go a few miles out of your way from Baden-Baden to Rothenburg and see Heidelberg.

viel Spas.
