Not that I don't like to stay at the Welt. I want to complete one "point of interest" fast for my wife. I have a 11am appointment at the Welt. What time you think I can get out of the Welt? (after I got all the goodies from the shop and snap enough photos).

The nice representative won't spend too much time right? I do appreciate their work, but I think I remember the whole manual already. :)

I know it is about 2 hrs drive to the Castle. It will be mid-May. You think there'll be Sunlight by 6pm?

11am-2pm @ the Welt
2pm-4pm Drive to the castle
4pm-6pm Castle time
6pm - back to Munich for beeeeer

Michelin says 1hr. 45mins. Depends on which day and time of day. Weekends it gets mobbed.

I think you´ll be out by 14.00, 14.30 at the latest.

Regarding driving time, I suppose it might matter which castle you go to. There are castles within 10 minutes of the Welt so 2 hours is sufficient.

I would pick something somewhat close by if you are returning to Munich.

If you are just trying to cover a point of interest the same day you pick up your car, I'd suggest stayng in Munich and taking in Nymphenburg Palace. It is actually a nice historical introdution to the Castles since it was where Ludwig II was born and lived during the winters. Head to Fussen and the castles the next morning and you should also avoid the late in the day traffic that seems to add an hour driving time consequent from some poorly planned lane mergers enroute when the traffic volume gets heavy.

Yes, Füssen is too far for a late afternoon trip. You won't actually get to see anything.

My appointment time was also at 11. By the time everything was said and done and driving down the ramp it was about 1:20pm (13:20). However, i guess it might also depend on how busy and what day of the week. I delivered on a Tuesday. Plus a bunch of us had the same delivery time and we were all scheduled for the 1:30 factory tour, so kinda rushing near the end.

I went to the castles last Wednesday, the day after delivery. Took A96 to 17 (Romantic Road). It was about a 1 hour 45 min easy drive in light traffic and a chance to see the peaceful country side. It was lightly snowing in Schwangau. I don't know what time the last English tour is, but it can take up to half an hour to walk up to Neuschwanstein.

If you want beer after, you must go to Andechs. It is a different driving route and on the way back to Munich. I actually enjoyed the food there just as much. A scoop of sauerkraut with every bite of roasted pork. Mmmmmmmmm. :yummy:

All I know is women don't like to be rushed.

I've got a 9:30am pick up on a Saturday. Can I do the pick up, head over to Harms and do the paperwork for a Sunday drop off and then make it in time for a 4 pm appointment at Neuschwanstein?

TIA

I think you could make it if you Harms leave by 1 pm. Don't forget that the appointment time is at the castle entrance. You still have to get the ticket in the valley floor and hike (15-30 minutes), ride the carriage or bus shuttle up.

Cutting it close. Really depends on the traffic. Saturday traffic could be a bear. Somewhere enroute the lanes merge and we actually came to a standstill driving late in the afternoon on a Friday - adding at least an extra hour driving time. I suspect if you skip the factory tour and the WELT tour at the WELT you would make it OK.

I plan to arrive early and do the Welt tour before pick up.

What is it about walking through castles? I don't get it. We were in Ireland and traipsed through some and the only good part was the Guinness at the bar at the end? Do you guys do the castles to appease the wives?
