Question about Bluetooth/Assist on a 2004 E46

Does anyone know exactly why you can't have Assist and Bluetooth on pre-9/04 E46s? What I'm looking for is the actual details. For instance are the post 9/04 E46s equipped with 2 modules (one for assist and one for bluetooth) or is this a single integrated module? The reason I ask is because I really want BT, however have a pre 9/04 car with Assist. I'm thinking of just getting the BT module and ditching assist, but if possible I'd like to keep both.

There is a TSB of retrofitting an Assist TCU with Bluetooth to MY2004 E46 with Assist, one for vehicles from build date of 09/03 to 02/04 and one from 03/04 to 08/04. The link of those TSB are in the alldata.com site, and you either need to pay for access or ask your local dealer for a copy and details.

The main difference between those dates (it is the same TSB) is that MY2004 vehicles between 09/03 and 02/04 did not have the Bluetooth antenna already installed, and vehicles after 03/04 did, as part as their Assist option.

So this is an issue of just replacing your Assist TCU with one of a MY2005-on (it is much better a MY2006 TCU, as it will include phone Voice Command also) and, depending on the build date of your vehicle, add the Bluetooth antenna or not. Of course, programming will be required. :thumbup:

You said after 2/04 cars with Assist have a bluetooth antenna though, mine's a 6/04 build (coupe), and no BT antenna (unless it has to be programmed). I'll do a little more research, if I have to get a '06 TCU though I will. Thanks again
