Looking at VIN for an '05 545.....they all seem to start with WBANB335...which I guess indicates the model....the first example ends with ...85CN66130 the car is a sport package with auto trans. The next example ends in....95B089455...this car has sport, prem. and 6sp manual...can anyone decode these numbers? Thanks D7

W means it was made in Germany
B means it is a BMW
A means it is not an M car
NB33 is the model code
5 is the type of restraint system
the next number is a check digit
The next digit is the year code....in this case 5 menas it is a 2005
the rest (the last 7) is the serial number
You are probably looking at how to figure out what options are on a certain car. There is no way to tell from looking at the VIN...although the 7th digit might be different between an auto and a manual.

If you go to the parts department at a BMW dealer and give them the VIN they should be able to give you a print out showing all the options. I think you can also call BMW NA and they will do it for you.
