View Full Version : Passenger Floor Mat Solutions?
I have read the prior threads and know I'm not alone. The OEM BMW carpet floor mat for the passenger side of my 2008 E90 is just terrible. There are no anchors, or anchor holes in the floor for that matter. It rolls down from the top, and rolls up from the bottom. Now that I've vented...
What have you found that works to correct this? I don't want to buy rubber mats due to the climate where I live. I have tried adhesive velcro strips, but the adhesive side wont stick to the carpeted car floor. The mat just rolls down and takes both sides of velcro with it. If you have found a solution that works, please share. Thanks.

A little ghetto, but try duct tape :)
It will work.

I have rubber mats from Bavarian Autosport (it rains a lot here). They slide a bit as well. Try binder clips from your office (black, various sizes). Clip the mat to the OEM carpet mat (which is secured in place) and they won't slip forward. Costs is less than $1.

I was going to post a note about this problem, too. The top of my OEM passenger mat curls back on itself in a most maddening fashion. But yesterday while futzing with it I discovered that you can tuck the top the mat into the bottom of the dash. And it basically stays put.
Whether the arrangement will survive a passenger putting his feet on the mat, I don't know.

I had the exact same issue, and they replaced my mats. Let's just see if it happens again.

Here is an idea - but I have no clue if it is a good one or not as I just got back from my ED trip and won't see my car again for 6 to 10 weeks to try it out on :(. However, during my week with my 335i Coupe in Europe I noticed the driver's side floor mat was retained in place with two "hook" side up Velcro anchors that were attached on the floor just in front of the drivers seat. I have no idea if they are a permanent fixture on the drivers side car carpet as I did not try and pull them up or look at them too closely to make that determination but it just gave me an idea after reading this post. I did not notice any "loop" side Velcro on the bottom of the drivers side floor mat so I am thinking the "hook" side material may stick to the bottom of the OEM floor mats naturally.
So, based on the above observation, what if you got some of the adhesive backed Velcro (maybe in a 1.5" to 2" width - this can often be found in fabric and craft specialty stores on roles and you can often purchase the "hook" side Velcro separate from the "loop" side Velcro as for this idea you would only need the "hook" side material) and cut two 1.5" to 2" square pieces of the "hook" side of the Velcro then peeled the adhesive backing protector off of each piece and stuck the two pieces together back to back. You would then have a square double "hook" sided piece of Velcro that could attach to the car carpeting (and hopefully stick just like it would to the "loop" side of Velcro) and the other side would attach to the bottom of the floor mat (again, just like it would to the "loop" side of Velcro). If this worked you could make four of these double "hook" sided Velcro squares and the problem could be solved? :dunno:
Anyway - if anyone tries this I would be interested in knowing if this idea is a  or a :thumbdwn:

Ghetto is the way to go.
I tried the other options, but the velcro strips wouldn't stay adhered to the floor carpet.
The tape seems to be holding best, but still comes up a little on the edge.
Thanks.

BMW makes velcro anchors that screw into the carpet and have velcro pads that attach to the bottom of the mats.
If I can find out the part number I will edit this post.

My E90 has these anchors for the driver's side only. For some reason, they are not included with the passenger mat.
On my E46, both front mats had the anchors. I removed a set from the E46, but there are no holes in the passenger-side floor on the new car to put the anchors into. I'm not real comfortable drilling into the floor of my car and making a slot for these anchors.
Why would BMW stop using the anchors on both sides is beyond me.

You don't drill any holes. The anchor has a tapered plastic thread that screws into the carpet There is a "coin slot" on the top of the anchors. When they are unscrewed they do not leave any mark in the carpet.

They come with the BMW winter mats. As for summer the ED mats are better.

Many thanks to captainaudio for tracking these down.
Our local UK dealership couldn't get a hit on the above part number (maybe regional differences?), but they did find them under 07147151866 (on the 51/Vehicle Trim 55/Interior Body Trim Panel schematics).
Hope this helps any UK users out there.

Right? I was just going to say that it seems that the freebies that come with ED, which are apparently cheaper than the standard floormats, actually seem to be better overall than the standard floormats. Dealer set me up with both, so as I was switching out the mats to the standard ones (with the BMW stitching) I actually stopped and went back to the ED mats. So, speaking of which, if anyone needs a set of unused standard mats, PM me.

Wow. I can't believe that the mats aren't anchored in some way.

That's a heckuva good idea. Its too cheap not to at least try it!
